POSITION: Programs Coordinator (warehouse)

CLASSIFICATION: Hourly, full time – 40 hours, non-exempt

WORK SCHEDULE: Full time. Schedule depends on ASOH needs and may include weekends and evenings.

REPORTS TO: Development and Programs Director and/or Chapter Director


SALARY: $19-23/hour DOE


A Sense of Home strives to prevent homelessness by creating first-ever homes for youth aging out of foster care with donated furniture and home goods. 50% of those struggling with homelessness are former foster youth. The homeless crisis can only end through prevention.

The Development and Programs Coordinator, in accordance to established procedures, is responsible for pulling and prepping all items for Home Creations, coordinating all volunteer activities in the warehouse, managing warehouse inventory, co-leading volunteers at Home Creations, managing and onboarding recipients’ warehouse pick-ups, accepting donors’ donations, issuing receipts to donors, and managing, organizing and coordinating warehouse inventory and distribution.

The PC will thrive in this role if they have a love for design, making a difference, helping others, working with volunteers – someone who enjoys busy days with lots of multi-tasking, speaking publicly, being a leader while knowing when to step back, working alone and often with large groups of people, working within set parameters, and with minimal supervision, but lots of procedures and processes to follow.


Donated goods – A significant amount of home goods ASOH donates to recipients come from the individual donors. The PC is responsible for all donated goods and will project the highest level of customer service and efficiency throughout the lifecycle of donations – ensuring that donated goods are accepted, transported, stored, coded and delivered in accordance to existing, and continually improving, procedures.

Warehouse - Donated goods are stored in our warehouse and turned around quickly to recipients. As such, the PC will manage the organization, and upkeep of items in the warehouse including, but not limited to the following tasks:

  • Lift, move, sort, organize and store donated goods
  • Including lifting and moving of heavy furniture and other items such as sofas, armchairs, dressers, etc.
  • Support warehouse upkeep needs
  • Including light housekeeping, organization of supplies, trash removal
  • Update the inventory database regularly
  • Prepare inventory for distribution at Home Creations and warehouse pickups
  • Coordinate all warehouse pick-ups with recipients and staff
  • Manage volunteer, warehouse pick and other relevant calendars
  • Regularly monitor inventory levels and advise on low quantities
  • Adhere to security procedures and protocols, complying with company policies, properly handling all materials, and advising management on needed actions

Home Creations – As needed and requested by the PD or CD, the PC will be present at Home Creations in various capacities including coordinating all aspects of the Home Creation in accordance to established processes, with respect home designs, preparation and volunteer participation. As needed the PC will also take photos and videos for social media marketing purposes. The PC will also serve as a Home Creation lead in instances where the DPD or CD are not present.

Special Events - The PC may be asked to speak on behalf of ASOH at school events, service clubs, volunteer fairs, and foster youth events

Recipient Onboarding – The PC is responsible for onboarding youth to receive services from ASOH as assigned by the DPD or CD.

Volunteers - The PC will coordinate all volunteer scheduling and manage volunteers in the warehouse and at Home Creations as directed by the DPD or CD. The PC will provide clear instructions and ensure volunteers understand job duties, while creating a stress-free, fun environment in the warehouse and Home Creations for volunteers and staff alike.

Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, modified or changed at any time at ASOH’s discretion. Changes may be made formally, informally either verbally or in writing.


Relevant experience is required. Must have valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and sufficient auto insurance to comply with state laws. Will be expected to drive your own vehicle and ASOH owned box trucks as a part of the job. College education is preferred.

Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Communications and Media - Requires public speaking, phone conversations, use of email, writing letters and memos, face-to-face discussions with individuals or teams and contact with others.

English Language - Strong knowledge in reading, writing and speaking of the English language. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the Company.

Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

Computers and Electronics - Working knowledge of email, social media networks, computers, smartphones, equipment, graphics software and CRM system.

Clerical - Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology.

Law and Government - Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances


Lifting and moving - Requires ability to lift, move, transport, and stage furniture and other home goods sometimes in excess of 50 pounds.

Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions as well as outdoors in hot, cold, wet, humid and/or dry conditions. Work is often performed in recipients’ homes. Also, requires ability to climb stairs or hills at times while lifting. Work is often performed in warehouse settings with tight spaces for travel/access. Requires ability to lift, reach, hold and move heavy items; at times onto and from shelving units.
