THE OPPORTUNITY  

Summer Search is seeking an Evaluation and Data Systems Manager to play a crucial role in empowering national and local staff across five sites to leverage data and technology to drive design and delivery of programming collectively reaching over 3,500 Summer Search participants. This new position offers an exciting opportunity to use creative thinking on a daily basis and to exercise a high degree of autonomy in decision making while overseeing data systems and contributing to data-informed decision making for a national non-profit. The best work doesn’t happen in isolation. As part of the National Program Team, this hire will manage a Data System Associate and join a team committed to continuous learning, wellbeing, and social and racial justice. 

 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Administer, design, and implement program technology systems: Act as a resident expert in evaluation systems and tools essential to high quality and seamless delivery of programming.

  • Lead the design and administration of the national program database (Salesforce) to ensure it serves program/performance management and reporting needs at the national and local level.  
  • Oversee the administration of national program technology systems that are foundational to program functions and national and local evaluation and learning projects/initiatives. e.g. Dialpad and Form Assembly.   
  • Assess, recommend, and manage the implementation of new technologies that increase efficiency of staff, data integrity, and enhance and increase the functionality of existing systems. 
  • Develop and design technology solutions and integrated processes to increase national and local staff capacity and efficiency for program initiatives and practices.  
  • Ensure that program technology systems are integrated with other organizational technology systems, such as the development database and the Summer Search CONNECT alumni platform.
  • Serve as Summer Search's liaison with technical, account management and billing staff for all program data and technology systems. 

Enhance Data Driven Decision-Making: Facilitate understanding of and increase capacity to perform and leverage evaluation for both Site and National Program Staff 

  • Develop reports and tools to meet program performance management needs, locally and nationally. 
  • Design, implement and support the usage of dashboards for monitoring program outcomes and performance at the national and site level. 
  • Collaborate with cohorts and site and/or national staff as needed to enable data-driven decision-making. 
  • Collaborate with Program Delivery staff to develop and inform training curricula on integrated program processes. 
  • Manage cross-departmental data needs by providing and ensuring consistent, accurate usage of key program data and managing customized data requests 

Support and inspire the incoming Data Systems Associate: Leverage and further develop your skills as a people manager.

  • Set your direct report up to do their best work, develop professionally, and navigate challenges through regular 1:1s, goal setting and performance reviews, and day-to-day support.
  • Develop or build people management skills through participation in manager trainings and workshops held by the National Talent Team.

 

WHO YOU ARE

Strong candidates will bring:

  • EXPERIENCE: At least 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the non-profit field, with a high degree of comfort with technology, databases and change management including ability to streamline & improve processes. Experience at a multi-site non-profit a plus. People management experience or desire and enthusiasm to develop and build management skills.
  • TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Salesforce administration including experience managing Salesforce users/roles/profiles, workflow rules, flows, and page layouts, email templates, mass emailing), Excel. Experience integrating one or more database systems, Nice to have: experience with Tableau, Alteryx, SQL
  • DATA SKILLS: Ability to manage, organize and interpret data.
  • CUSTOMER SERVICE ORIENTATION: The ability to proactively address user concerns and needs and drive consistently high user satisfaction. An approachable communications style, “can do” attitude, and responsiveness and follow-through.
  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Exceptional project management skills with the ability to remain organized and composed while juggling multiple workflows and logistics.
  • PROBLEM SOLVING: Apply a systems perspective and design thinking approach to address challenges, implement new processes, and communicate and collaborate with the network.

LOCATION AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Location is flexible with the option of working remotely, out of our National office in Oakland or regional offices in New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, or Seattle, or a combination of the two once offices are reopened. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this position will be performed fully remotely until further notice, with potential for limited working days in the office if desired. This hire must be reside in one of their following states by their first day of employment: California, Washington, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, North Carolina, or Colorado.

Summer Search requires all of its staff be vaccinated against COVID-19. Employees who are unable to be vaccinated due to a medical reason or sincerely held religious objection may be able to qualify for an exemption, consistent with state and federal law
