Facilities Manager

The Facilities Manager is a key component of the successful management and maintenance of The Art League School. They are responsible for managing the maintenance of offices, classrooms, gallery, store, and associated facilities, including specialty studio care and equipment service. The Facilities Manager works closely with the School Director and Ceramics Department Chair to determine and prioritize the needs of the facilities. As a member of The Art League team, the Facilities Manager acts as a liaison between instructors, students, and administration to ensure needed maintenance is ongoing in a timely, helpful fashion. The Facilities Manager also directs all contractors needed for work outside the scope of the Manager's skill set.


You can handle maintenance, basic repairs, and occasional environmental engineering services. You have moderate to intermediate skills and knowledge in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and mechanical equipment. You ensure class studios are returned to order after class sessions. You coordinate with instructors to ensure needed workshop equipment is maintained and repaired. 


Examples of duties include general maintenance repairs, changing door locks, light bulb replacement, patching drywall, painting, sweeping or mopping in the event of a spill, and loading/unloading delivery materials and equipment inside and outside the facility. (Regular janitorial maintenance is contracted out.)


To be suited for this position, you should be an energetic self-starter with a positive attitude team player mentality. A successful candidate would be a quick learner who pays attention to details, and able to work under pressure and on your own. You pay careful attention to the safety and satisfaction of our students and instructors. Finally, this is a relaxed, creative and free-spirited environment —but it is also heavy on customer service and competing directives—this is a combination that can be draining at times. Patience and strong communication skills are big assets.


QUALIFICATIONS:

·      Handyperson experience

·      Construction experience!

·      Ability to lift 50 Lbs.

·      Moderate skills and knowledge in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and machinery

·      Flexibility to meet needs of the League in emergencies or during special events (the latter of which are very occasional evenings or weekends).

·      Ability to work on ladders.

·      A valid Driver's license

·      Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple projects

·      A love of humanity and the sense of humor needed to maintain that love

·      Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the school (Administration, Instructors, Students, and other League Staff)


RESPONSIBILITIES:

·      Maintain facilities 

·      Ensure campus safety

·      Comply with all current policies, procedures, and quality standards as well as safety and environmental regulations

·      Ensure facilities are in good repair and provide a safe environment

·      Coordinate and schedule all maintenance, cleaning requests, and work orders

·      Oversee all third-party vendors, i.e., plumbers, pest control, locksmiths, and electricians

·      Manage the fire, safety, and security systems

·      Respond quickly to emergency problems and be on-call to meet with vendors, repairers or suppliers, when necessary

·      Purchase all facilities cleaning and operation supplies, and materials; research prices and buy items based on best prices with quality and volume in mind.

·      Maintain inventory of tools and supplies for custodial, maintenance, and emergency preparedness

·      Work with the School Director in the management of construction, renovation, and maintenance operations and projects.

·      Perform a wide variety of skilled maintenance duties related to the school

·      Service and maintain school vehicle and ensure it is in safe operating condition for the transportation of materials, merchandise, and equipment

·      Compliance with TAL's stated Policies and Protocols 

·      Full vaccination for COVID-19 

·      Compliance with TAL's stated Covid-19 Safety Protocols including mandatory masking during populated class sessions

Compensation

Starts at $15/hr for a three month training period.
