Overview

The Publishing department, part of the David Rockefeller Studies Program, is responsible for editing and producing CFR’s print and online publications and for ensuring editorial consistency across CFR, including its promotional materials and its website. The senior editor works closely with the editorial director, associate and staff editors, Director of Studies office, fellows and research associates, and program staff across the organization.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • manages the editing and production of select CFR reports and digital products, includes copyediting, proofreading, printing, mailing, and trafficking manuscripts between authors, freelance editors, designers, and printers
  • edits CFR interactives and works with the editorial director on the overall digital strategy for CFR publications
  • builds webpages for CFR publications, including CFR Books, and maintains the Publications section of the website, including posting video links, reviews, and other relevant materials on existing webpages
  • coordinates approval of the social media marketing memos for CFR publications
  • manages the production and distribution of CFR publications, including ebooks and POD conversions
  • serves as a resource for all CFR staff on editing, grammar, and publishing questions, and provides guidance and training in CFR style and editorial practices, including iThenticate queries
  • co-supervises the department intern

Qualifications

  • degree in international affairs, English, or related subject
  • previous editorial experience in a fast-paced environment; at least four years in nonprofit, academic, trade or web publishing preferred
  • outstanding spelling and grammar skills and knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style
  • superior organizational skills and attention to detail to handle deadlines and multitask
  • strong proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat; knowledge of Photoshop and email service providers helpful
  • experience working with a content management system, web analytics, and HTML
  • proven supervisory skills
  • a flexible, positive, team-oriented attitude
  • excellent oral and written communication skills
