Development Director

The Development Director will report to the Executive Director and is responsible for completing a capital campaign while working collaboratively with the Executive Director to raise the annual operating costs for the organization. The Development Director will create, implement, and evaluate the organization’s development strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Fundraising Committee and the Executive Director to create a 5-year fund development plan that increases revenue to support the capital campaign and annual operating costs
  • Oversee and execute the capital campaign
  • Manage portfolio of donors and build pipeline for support to achieve capital campaign goal over 2-3 years
  • Identify prospects to be cultivated for the capital campaign and for unrestricted gifts
  • Identify potential grant funding sources, write letters of inquiry, and grant applications
  • Create and implement cultivation and stewardship strategies
  • Maintain an annual development calendar that includes deadlines for submission and reporting as well as stewardship plans
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with corporate and individual donors and personally solicit gifts
  • Prepare reports to track progress against goals
  • Oversee fundraising events
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, use the relationship management system (Salesforce) to ensure there is documentation of engagement with prospective, past, and current donors
  • Work with Executive Director and Communications Committee to develop presentations, newsletters, fundraising materials, and other marketing materials
  • Support the fundraising efforts of the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and key staff
  • Assist with other OHK projects, as requested

Knowledge and Skills Necessary to Achieve Success in this Position:

Fundraising and Capital Campaign

  • Knowledge of fundraising principles, ethics, and trends
  • Proven track record of work in the development field around donor cultivation, stewardship, tracking, and researching
  • Proven track record of completing a capital campaign

Relationship Building

  • Capacity to collaborate creatively, sensitively, and professionally with a diverse staff, Board members, and volunteers
  • Willingness to support the team fully, including peers and leadership, to meet the needs of the organization


  • Solid project management skills, including the ability to collaboratively set goals, effectively plan for their achievement and evaluate outcomes.
  • Ability to work independently and also collaboratively as a vital and contributing member of a team, juggling multiple competing priorities, deadlines, and tasks
  • Sound judgement; reliable, willing to own the position fully
  • Ability to remain highly organized and self-disciplined


  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of experience in nonprofit development roles
  • Capital Campaign experience
  • Experience/aptitude with Salesforce or other CRM system
  • Complete proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
  • Strong writing, quantitative, oral communications, critical thinking, technology, and listening skills
  • Must be able to maintain high level of confidentiality
  • Valid CA driver’s license
  • Must agree to a background check

Environment and Work Conditions: 

·        Occasional weekend and evening work to support fundraising and marketing activities

·        Must be able to lift up to thirty pounds (as necessary to set up events)

·        Must be able to travel to OHK locations throughout Dublin, Livermore, and Pleasanton as well as fundraising events and meetings



  • Annual salary range of $80,000 - $88,000
