Summary: The Youth Services at the SF LGBT Center include structured group programming, crisis intervention and referral services, leadership development, a dedicated drop-in youth space, on-site access to therapy and counseling. Low-barrier services are designed to reach disconnected lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQQ) youth ages 16 – 24. The program is rooted in community building, trauma-informed care and harm reduction models. A high percentage of program participants have experienced physical and/or sexual abuse, homelessness, engagement with criminal justice and/or foster care systems, substance use/abuse, and/or mental health challenges. Through a partnership with the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing, the Center’s youth services are expanding to pilot and develop San Francisco’s first Host Homes program for transitional aged youth.
Role Overview: The Youth Host Home Program Manager will oversee and promote the Host Home Program at the SF LGBT Center by recruiting, training, and providing ongoing support to volunteer hosts and supervising case managers providing on-going support to hosts and youth participants. Additional responsibilities include assistance in program development and evaluation and sharing key program insights with other community partners. The Host Home Program will identify, screen, and train up to 25 community members who will volunteer to host young people 18-24 in need of immediate, short-term housing in their homes. Host Home programs emphasize participation of welcoming, culturally affirming hosts. The Host Home Program Manager will collaborate with local partners to recruit suitable hosts and mentors, thoroughly prepare them, and appropriately match them to young people in the housing search.
- Program Development: Build and evaluate program policies and procedures to continuously fine-tune offerings and delivery of service. This includes:
- Processes for the recruitment, screening, ongoing support, training and retention of hosts and youth participants
- On-going research and identification of successful Host Home models that exist around the country and world to fine tune our program
- Communication of updates and key insights among partner organizations to assure program practices are being addressed in a regular and systematic way
- Development of ongoing opportunities for community building among hosts and youth participants
- Recruitment and support of Host Home Advisory Council members to inform and guide direction of Host Home program
Program Implementation: Plan and execute activities to implement the Host Home Program. This includes:
- Activities to recruit, screen, support, and retain hosts and youth participants
- Facilitating regular trainings for new hosts and supporting them through the host application process
- Matching new hosts with youth based on affinity
- On-going case management and support of hosts
- Supplementary case management support for youth participants, including supporting long- term housing plan and housing search and regularly collaborating with case managers and other staff working with and recruiting youth participants
- Facilitating ongoing Host Home Advisory Council meetings
Supervision of Staff. This includes:
- On-going support, supervision and training of two case managers
- Ensure strong staff mentorship and linkage to professional development opportunities
- Cultivate culture of learning: plan and attend regular, ongoing trainings related to topics connected to Host Homes and youth mentorship including: supporting youth experiencing housing instability, positive youth development, trauma-informed care, and host home best practices, etc. share learnings back with staff and organization.
Assist in: preparing and tracking program budgets, managing and tracking grant deliverables, ensuring grant and contract compliance.
Participate in Host Home Program evaluation. Seek out strategies to evaluate and track program inputs, outputs, and outcomes.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Understanding of the needs of vulnerable LGBTQ communities, strategies to meet their needs, and ability to work with a broad range of constituents, program participants, and stakeholders representing the full diversity of the LGBTQ and allied communities.
- Commitment to the mission of the SF LGBT Center and a strong commitment to racial, social and economic justice. A champion for building pathways for people not served by mainstream systems.
- Minimum three years experience working in a leadership role in various settings which can include youth services, community organizing, volunteer management, and/or program coordination.
- Direct experience in working with individuals experiencing homelessness and housing instability including LGBTQ transitional aged youth. Preferred experience assisting individuals access affordable housing.
- Experience recruiting, training, and supporting staff, volunteers, teams and community coalitions.
- Strong interpersonal skills; excellent verbal and written communication and effective public speaking skills. Ability to lead productive discussions among various stakeholders.
- Diligent, data-driven program planning, management, and evaluation experience. Collaborative and efficient problem- solving; strong critical and strategic thinking.
- Working knowledge of trauma-informed and harm reduction service models and philosophies including Housing First, Mental Health First Aid, Motivational Interviewing, Positive Youth Development and Harm Reduction. Deep understanding of adolescent and young adult development and behavior.
- Computer/PC literacy, including Internet proficiency, Microsoft Office software and networked systems mandatory, Salesforce experience desirable
- Must have successful completion of criminal background screening and TB test clearance.
