Accounts Payable Manager

The Accounts Payable Manager is responsible for managing, directing, and overseeing the operational functions and activities of the Accounts Payable area; ensuring that workflow requirements are performed in a timely and accurate manner; maintaining cost effective and efficient processes; and delivering superior internal and external customer service in support of organizational goals.

The Accounts Payable function provides accounting support to all levels of management and staff within the organization and provides problem resolution for internal and external customers. The role is responsible for ensuring timely payment of vendor invoices and employee expenses, maintaining accurate records and control reports, and ensuring accurate and prompt month-end closings of the accounts payable function.Job Description

Responsibilities Include:

• Oversee all areas of the AP day-to-day process, including a staff of two
• Monitor and manage AP workflow to ensure invoices are processed accurately and in accordance with company policy and payments and are completed timely
• Process/Approve new vendor documentation, ensuring the company has a valid Form W-9 for all active vendors where necessary; manage 1099 tax reporting processes
• Manages monthly closing of invoices and posting of month-end information
• Interact professionally and collaboratively with management and site staff; responds to financial questions/concerns to meet business needs
• Analyze current processes and procedures to ensure best practices are implemented
• Participates in making policy and procedural changes as pertains to the Accounts Payable function
• Ability to mentor, guide and motivate direct reports through demonstration of best practices and leading by example
• Manage the Procurement Card program

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance or equivalent professional experience
• 2+ years of experience in supervising accounts payable; 4+ year of experience in accounts payable departments
• Strong Excel skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated skills in diplomacy, team building, and connecting people to a common vision 
• Ability to present complex information easily and accurately
• Flexible work hours required to meet unanticipated work demands and deadlines beyond routine workflow

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with nonprofit accounting or financial management
• Highly proficient in applying technology to work processes
• Solid experience with Workday or other accounting/ERP software preferred
• Knowledge of best practices and ability and eagerness to design and apply such to current environment
• Awareness of City Year's core mission and values and an ability to model those values in relationship with colleagues and partners
