The Opportunity.

The Trustees is currently seeking an experienced communications professional to support the CEO and President with strategic communications. This effort will include developing key messaging, correspondence, speaking remarks, presentations, and external communications for external leadership, key partners, supporters, staff, governance and volunteers. These communications efforts will be designed to help these core constituents understand the organization’s strategy and people, and to support organizational priorities and goals. This position will partner with the CEO and the CMO to create and implement a wide range of strategic governance and external communication activities to meet these goals. The Senior Communications Manager will develop and drive communications that educate, inform, connect, and inspire governance and special external constituents.

The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of meeting deadlines, organizing content, producing high-quality, crisp, creative and compelling messaging and presentations for senior executives, a demonstrated ability to work with highly confidential information, exemplary organizational skills, and an uncompromising eye for quality and detail while working on several projects simultaneously. A master writer and editor, the Manager will organize and compose thoughtful prose in the CEO’s voice. The Manager will proactively initiate and create personal correspondence on the CEO’s behalf.

This position will report to directly to the Chief Marketing Officer with a dotted line to the President, ensuring that all messaging is consistent with organizational campaigns and channels.

 

In This Role You Will:

  • Establish and drive the President and CEO’s overall internal communications strategy that supports The Trustees’ strategic plan, mission, vision and values
  • Work across multiple channels from correspondence, web content, emails, speaking points, briefing documents, case statements, and presentations
  • Cultivate a calendar of key deadlines and events, managing for time to prepare for engagements in advance with time to revise and adjust content supported by additional research
  • Proactively build strong, effective relationships with key external and internal stakeholders to build advocacy for various initiatives and issues.
  • Work collaboratively with Development colleagues to understand donor needs and preferences while also organizing confidential information
  • Coordinate communications activities to ensure alignment and maximum impact, namely:
  • Focus communication around the needs and preferences of different audiences while helping to anticipate likely reactions to messaging
  • Review and quality control of communications materials created by others, ensuring a high level of standards and consistency of tone of voice and writing style
  • Lead, co-create and support organization-wide change communication efforts to increase the understanding of strategy, priorities and key initiatives across staff, governance & volunteer bodies
  • Support various speech and personal communication efforts of the President’s Office, as needed with research, project management, and editing
  • Manage a number of complex communications projects simultaneously and activities as required in support of the wider marketing and human resources teams and its strategic plan. This may include (but is not limited to) the following activities:
  • Supporting communications preparation for town hall meetings, senior management meetings, monthly newsletters, and one-off communication needs
  • Development of key messages, talking points and communications materials as required for external meetings
  • Stewardship communications, formal and informal, of various VIP audiences interacting with the CEO office
  • Measure and monitor outcomes and continually strategize ways to drive engagement to meet organization goals
  • Assist with other communication efforts as needed

Other Information

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Communications or English
  • At least 5 years of communications or equivalent experience (as a team member or leader) with excellent writing, copyediting and proofreading experience
  • Excellent English language skills
  • Experience in corporate communications, including oversight of a number of programs/projects simultaneously
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with a demonstrated ability to influence and persuade at senior levels internally
  • Established and proven stakeholder networking capabilities
  • A strong eye for detail, with solid strategic, analytical and planning skills, as well as a creative approach to problem-solving
  • A creative thinker with a track record of coming up with new ways to engage internal stakeholders
  • Comfortable with change. Ability and willingness to adapt and thrive in a dynamic environment
  • A pragmatic and flexible approach to time management given calls/meetings
  • Ability to deliver in high-pressure situations and with short deadlines
  • All candidates must submit a portfolio of material that demonstrates a mastery of writing and communication planning
