  • What’s Out There®, North America’s most comprehensive database of cultural landscapes;
  • Pioneers of American Landscape Design®, an in-depth multimedia library that includes online biographical profiles, published biographies, and video oral histories chronicling the lives of impactful landscape architects and educators;
  • Landslide®, which advocates for the informed stewardship of cultural landscapes and mobilizes, supports, and monitors efforts at the local, state, and national level to save significant landscapes facing threats

Scope and Impact:

Working from the foundation’s offices in Washington, D.C., the successful candidate will support TCLF's various programs (including What's Out There® and Pioneers of American Landscape Design®) but will be particularly engaged in the Landslide® program, the primary advocacy vehicle for threatened cultural landscapes across the nation. Specific tasks include conducting research, writing advocacy pieces, and participating in Section 106 / NHPA reviews, as well as website content management, basic graphic design, and photo editing. Excellent research and writing skills are required, along with attention to detail and a demonstrated interest in all aspects of the history, theory, and practice of landscape architecture. Experience or coursework in historic preservation is also highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Researching and writing about topics related to landscape history using printed and online sources
  • Communicating with a variety of stakeholders in advocacy campaigns  
  • Maintaining and managing website content, both textual and graphic
  • Other duties as assigned

Preparation and Knowledge:

  • Strong writing and verbal skills
  • Familiarity with the basic tenets of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act
  • The ability to cull information from a variety of texts and sources
  • The ability to handle several projects simultaneously
  • Coursework in landscape architecture
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite—Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Excellent attention to detail
