Job Summary

Coordinates the UUFH Religious Education program including helping to plan and administer a comprehensive program that nurtures the spiritual and religious growth of children and youth. Recruits and supports volunteers to lead. A full job description follows.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION COORDINATOR POSITION DESCRIPTION

Title: Religious Education Coordinator              FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Minister                                                    Hours: Part-time, 20 hours/week

Start Date: August/September 2020        


Position Purpose

Coordinates the Religious Education program of the UUFH, including planning and administering a comprehensive program that nurtures the spiritual and religious growth of children and youth. Recruits, trains, and supports volunteers to lead.

Interpersonal Relationships: Builds and maintains effective and constructive relationships using diplomacy and tact.

Conflict Management: Recognizes and resolves conflicts effectively, applying principles of active listening, collaboration, and equity.

Volunteer Development: Where possible, helps to identify talent and recruit capable people into roles that match their abilities. Communicates expectations clearly.

Communication and Presence: Easily engages in conversation with children, youth and adults.


Essential Job Functions

Program Development: Supports the selection of programming for children that encourages religious and spiritual development and builds community, while encouraging children in their development and acting on their values. Sets religious education calendar with minister and RE Council. May support the RE Council in coordinating a family retreat.

Volunteer Recruitment and Administration: Helps recruit and administer the volunteer religious education teachers and others who work with children and youth. Conducts background checks on all volunteers and ensures adherence with safe congregation policies.

Resource Management: Oversees the purchase and storage of supplies for religious education programs. Oversees the maintenance of the Religious Education Library. Manages the budget for religious education programming. Manages the Nursery staff.

Communication: Communicates regularly with parents and the larger congregation through the UUFH RE electronic newsletter as well as personal conversations and parent meetings, if necessary. Reaches out to Religious Education families when children or youth are absent for two consecutive weeks. Provides monthly updates to the board, as requested.

Congregational Life: Assists in the integration of visiting and new families into the congregation, as able. Attends congregational events, as requested by the minister and agreed upon in advance at the beginning of each year. 

Position Requirements

Skills & Knowledge

·  Proven administrative and relational skills.

·  Ability to use verbal and written communication effectively across all constituencies.

·  Understanding of  multiculturalism, anti-oppression, and anti-racism within Unitarian Universalism and the wider community.

·  Proficiency in the use of Google docs, Excel, Constant Contact with some graphic arts experience a plus. 

Minimum Experience

·  Experience in the administration of education programming.

·  Familiarity with UU curricula for children and youth a plus.

Minimum Education

·  Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
