Director of Programs

Barbershop Books, winner of the National Book Foundation's Innovations in Reading Prize, inspires Black boys and other vulnerable children to read for fun through child-centered, culturally responsive, and community-based programming and content. We seek an entrepreneurial and dynamic nonprofit leader to oversee the operational success and expansion of our three innovative programs: Barbershop Books, Reading So Lit, and the Barbershop Books E-Library. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Programs will be responsible for developing new program partnerships, growing the program team, and supporting the program development, implementation, and evaluation needs of the organization.

Responsibilities: 

Leadership:

• Cultivate relationships with new and existing community partners and volunteers
• Optimize synergies among programs and community partners
• Represent the organization for media opportunities and events

Team Management and Development:

• Recruit, train, and support high-quality program staff, interns, and volunteers
• Establish key performance indicators and success metrics across programs
• Model high performance standards, problem-solving, and solution-oriented strategies

Program Operational Management

• Collaborate with program team to develop standard operating procedures for each program
• Streamline internal processes to support programmatic efficiency and effectiveness 
• Use Salesforce and other tools to support consistent communication with program stakeholders
• Ensure accurate tracking of program contacts, communication, and data in Salesforce
