Job Objective:


Contribute to the implementation of activities for the “Central Asia and non EU European states or candidates “Desk under the supervision of the Executive Director and the Director of Operations.



Key Responsibilities:


           Participate in the development of the strategy of the Desk:


Develop the FIDH multi-year plan for the region; prepare yearly activity plans and possible contingencies

Develop programs for donors and ensure their implementation



           Facilitate and strengthen the relationship between internal and external actors

Liaise with, develop, foster relationships with member and partner organisations, with members of the International Board, the Executive Board, and when needed with FIDH mission officials involved in the President's and EAC Desk's activities


Implement the Desk's action plan, supervise and implement:


·      Daily monitoring of human rights developments in Central Asia and in non EU European states or candidates

·      Documentation and cross-checking of human rights violations in the region

·      Drafting/translation/dissemination of external FIDH publications, as well as internal documents related to activities of the Desk

·      Awareness-rising and alert activities on documented violations

·      Missions (fact-finding, legal observation, national solidarity and advocacy)

·      Strategic and capacity-building workshops and meetings

·      Advocacy activities targeting international human rights protection mechanisms in collaboration with FIDH delegations concerned (set up, conduct and record keeping)

·      Representation of FIDH before donors, governments, media and NGOs

·      Development of internal and external visibility of Desk activities and their results

·      Communication actions specific to the Desk activities

·      Coordination of support provided to human rights defenders in the region

·      Oversee and control of budgets of the Desk 


Ensure internal and external reporting and contribute to the evaluation of Desk activities






Build the Desk team. Organize and monitor its activities, including within internal evaluation process

           Ensure organisation and activities within Desk internships


           Ensure logistical and administrative management of activities





·      Advanced (graduate) degree in international relations, journalism, law, social sciences, or related studies

·      At least 6 years of working experience in the field of Human Rights and/or a related field

·      Deep knowledge of countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia

·      Excellent writing and oral skills and representation capacities

·     ·      Good knowledge of multimedia communication strategies and tools (web, social media...) is a plus.

·      Aptitude to follow and analyse international current events

·      Ability to document and investigate human rights abuses

·      Ability to identify or build strategies to research and advocate in a sensitive environment

·      Experience in working with international human rights law

·      Strong initiative and capacity to work creatively

·      Management and organization skills and ability to work as a team member

·      Ability to accommodate travels abroad





Long term contract, full time

Work week:  35 hours

Location: FIDH headquarters in Paris

Remuneration: From EUR 3200 gross per month (over 13 months), based on experience.

           FIDH will assist employees in obtaining necessary work authorization, if required.



Level of Language Proficiency

   bilingual Russian / English, with good basics in French .
