The Outreach Coordinator will assist with the successful implementation of the d-up! evidence-based initiative. The individual will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination of recruitment and engagement participants in the d-up YMSM intervention. The Outreach Coordinator will assist in managing and conducting outreach efforts to the priority populations including conducting presentations and providing referral services and managing the interventions’ administrative responsibilities. Provide direct supervision to the HIV Testing Counselor/Outreach Specialist. The Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for cultivating and maintaining professional work relationships with the Prevention team, community leaders, and stakeholders, for the HBC, priority populations of transgender, homeless, substance using and juvenile justice experienced youth.

Essential Job Functions

The following duties are mandatory requirements of the job:

  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of HIV prevention-related interventions and events for individuals assisted under the YMSM initiative
  • Facilitate activities aimed at engaging priority communities in different setting such as the internet, LGBTQ venues and other relevant areas as identified
  • Assist in the development of workplans, workshops and trainings
  • Assist in the creation of promotional, health education and social marketing materials that reflect the mission of the agency and our constituents
  • Co/facilitate the d-up intervention and group meetings with support of the Program Director
  • Provide direct supervision to the HIV Testing Counselor/ Outreach Specialist under the YMSM initiative.
  • Conduct targeted outreach to identify eligible individuals for the d-up intervention and those in need of STIs, HIV screening and testing
  • Provide coaching and one-one-one support for participants to increase their understanding and awareness of HIV transmission risks, encourage risk reduction and behavior change, skills acquisition and build self-efficacy to both negotiate and navigate high-risk situations and environments
  • Record all client and related interactions in databases to meet contract deliverables

Other Responsibilities

The following duties are to be performed as assigned by the supervisor:

  • Provide referrals for appropriate medical, preventive and psycho-social services, both internal and external
  • Attend and participate in any/all trainings pertinent to this YMSM initiative and ongoing maintenance of skills
  • Participate and assist in the implementation of special event testing such as testing at AIDS Walk New York, United Nations Testing Days, Pride in the City and Youth Pride events
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with community service providers, community leaders
  • Assist with special projects and performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor

Education and Certification

  • An Associate/Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field preferred OR equivalent experience in implementing Community Based HIV/AIDS Prevention Programs (HIV Testing, Outreach-to-hard to reach populations and YMSMOC)
  • Training for Pre- and Post-test HIV Counseling preferred but not required

Special Skills and Knowledge

In addition to the above-listed job responsibilities and educational requirements, the ideal candidate for this position possesses most or all of the following:

  • Thorough Knowledge of STD transmission and prevention
  • Knowledge of psychosocial issues faced by clients with the decision to test or not to test for the HIV virus, and those post-testing issues confronting clients who exhibit positive or negative results
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
  • Be passionate about ending the epidemic
