ABOUT THE POSITION

At a time when the protection of civilians is fading away from the public eye, it is more important than ever to shine a light on the alarming rates of civilian casualties in today’s conflicts. Investments in CIVIC’s core resources help to secure the intermediary results of our theory of change and pushback against the decline of global actors who were once champions of civilian protection. This, paired with robust institutional partnerships ensures that CIVIC’s bold vision of a world where no civilians are harmed in conflict can become a reality.

CIVIC has traditionally relied upon strong partnerships with European governments and multilateral/development agencies to implement our programs. While it is critical that these relationships continue to be stewarded with care and intentionality, the stage is also set to diversify funding mechanisms at CIVIC and expand the portfolio of institutional partners that currently provide funding. Working across teams in the global headquarters, as well as with teams in Europe and throughout countries of operations, this position will be the lead staff member responsible for creating and executing all business development strategies for CIVIC.

CIVIC seeks a highly qualified and motivated Senior Manager, Business Development to lead the organization’s fundraising operations with governments and major institutional partners. The development department provides crucial support to sustain and enhance CIVIC’s mission and to enable the creation and implementation of programs and projects. The Senior Manager is a trusted and integral part of that team, and plays a leadership role in crafting the strategy needed to reach our ambitious (but realistic) targets along with helping to hold other team members accountable to that strategy.

Under the leadership of the Development Director, the Senior Manager will be responsible for researching and identifying new restricted funding opportunities and cultivating relationships with these institutions in order to diversify CIVIC’s funder base. In addition, the Senior Manager will take the lead on planning, managing, and crafting the organization’s applications for governments, as well as other major institutional partners.

A strong work ethic and commitment to CIVIC's mission are critical. Ideal candidates will have some exposure to international, non-profit efforts in protection of civilians, peacebuilding, conflict resolution, human rights, security, or related fields. They will ideally also have experience soliciting and securing funding from European governments.

Successful candidates must be able to write clearly, accurately, and compellingly about CIVIC’s work in language that is accessible and appealing to potential donors in this portfolio. Other attributes should include good organizational skills, creativity, dedication to meeting deadlines, strong attention to detail, ability to drive a process, and the ability to motivate others to provide information that produces excellent deliverables to donors.

Candidates should be proven team players who also demonstrate the ability to work independently; they should enjoy challenges, and value the opportunity to contribute to shaping an effective, dynamic, and growth-oriented development department designed to support and promote CIVIC’s mission and objectives. This Senior Manager should also have a proven track record in organizing, managing, and developing winning donor proposals.
