Summary

Team Student Experience leads the organization's charge to ensure that the student experience at Achievement First is exceptional. The team defines, refines, and executes a vision for an exceptional student experience that intentionally supports scholar growth in all the college success factors and beyond. The team develops strong resources and practices and provides training and on-the-ground support, including mindset work (how we live out our core values with students), relationship-building, SEL and trauma and resilience informed practices, teacher taxonomy, systems and routines, Tier 1 and 2 interventions, rituals and traditions, and family engagement. Team Student Experience supports schools to lead for racial equity in ensuring the organization delivers on both parts of the equity equation -- great teaching fueling an exceptional student experience. The Family Engagement Director would work collaboratively across teams to define the vision of family engagement and determine a road map for amplifying family voice.


Essential responsibilities of the Family Engagement Director include but are not limited to: 

 

●       Drive student achievement and a strong student and family experience by defining the vision for  exceptional family engagement:

o  Leverage a research agenda, best practices (internal and external), and input from key stakeholders to work with the team on clarifying a vision for family engagement across K-12

o  Design and operationalize prototypes and potential pilots for family engagement strategies in the spirit learning (before scaling a strategy across the region, academy, or network)

o  Leverage the vision to determine guiding principles/organizational beliefs for family engagement and waterline expectations for all AF schools (including any nuances or needs by region, academy, or school)


●       Determine and operationalize a cohesive vision for amplifying family voice and experience

o  Articulate a cohesive roadmap including strategies and tactics to increase authentic family engagement leveraging our “Design With and Not For” liberatory design mindset

o  Oversee family engagement survey administration and determine key questions, measures, goals, and tactics

o  Articulate cohesion between current survey platforms (e.g. host district surveys, Teacher Career Pathway family survey, internal family pulse surveys) and best practices for leveraging this data

o  Leverage data to ensure the network is on track to meeting the needs of our families, students and aligned goals

o  Provide guidance for schools and network teams to leverage both qualitative and quantitative data and action plan


●       Initiate partnerships across teams to support enrollment, advocacy, partnerships, family health and wellness:

o  Identify other teams whose work connects with family engagement and understand how their work contributes to the long-term fvision for family engagement (e.g. Team Special Services, Social Work, Team External Relations, Team Partnerships, Team Recruit)

o  Define and facilitate collaboration structures (e.g. working group, 1:1s) to identify and plan for cohesion across intersecting workstreams

o  Work collaboratively across teams to assess and provide support structures and resources needed for families


●       Ensure high-quality professional development for key stakeholders around family engagement and investment

o  Leverage existing frameworks and PD resources to design professional development using the practice- based PD model (SEE IT - NAME IT - DO IT), create session plans, PowerPoints, interactive handouts and any other applicable session materials

o  Gather upfront input from VP of Team Student Experience (or Regional Superintendent point person where applicable) for session content and incorporate feedback received

o  Create project plans for PD scope and sequence (e.g. due dates, aims/pre-work deadline, copy deadline)


Skills and Characteristics

●       Strong self and social awareness and demonstrates a commitment for leading for racial equity

●       Belief in the power and potential of strong family partnership; asset based orientation

●       Strong school staff (preferably school leader) with a track record of leading strong family engagement and partnership

●       Ability to listen deeply to multiple stakeholders and make meaning (synthesize) the listening

●       Strategic planning; ability to manage multiple intersecting workstreams towards a common vision

●       Strong knowledge management and personal organization

●       Ability to inspire and influence others; strong relationship-builder

●       Growth mindset and willingness to incorporate feedback

●       Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; flexible, able to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed

●       Commitment to the Achievement First mission, core values and mindsets, and educational model

●       Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor and roll-up-my-sleeves attitude


Educational Background and Work Experience

●       Bachelor’s degree from a competitive college or university

●       At least four years of highly effective teaching experience demonstrating a strong track record of student achievement preferred

●       At least two of those years include school leadership experience (preferably Dean of Students/School Culture) preferred


This position will require travel between New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, as well as occasional weekend and evening work. The roles and responsibilities outlined above may shift in the 22-23 school year and beyond, as the organization undergoes a network visioning process.


Compensation

Salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience. Additionally, Achievement First offers a comprehensive benefits package.
