The Assistant Caretaker has regular contact with other staff members, parishioners, vendors, and others having business with the congregation.  As an official representative of the church, the Assistant Caretaker must be able to deal pleasantly, efficiently, and effectively with a wide range of tasks and people, often meeting several needs at once.

The position requires robust health, occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs), and ability and willingness to undertake unpleasant and laborious tasks (examples, policing the grounds of trash left by passers-by, cleaning bathrooms).

Promptness and courtesy are important. The Assistant Sexton must be able to follow a schedule of routine tasks, but must also remain flexible and sensitive to shifting demands upon the professional ministry team this position exists to support.  The need to maintain strict confidentiality is crucial, whether privileged information comes directly as a result of performing duties, or indirectly through informal channels.  When in doubt whether information needs to be confidential, the Assistant Caretaker must treat it as if it were.
