We are seeking a Prevention Educator to join our Education & Outreach Team to help us deliver lasting change for the people we serve. Be a key part of shaping this future.
As an integral member of the Education & Outreach team, the Prevention Educator:
• Delivers best-practice prevention education programming to teens and young adults as well as to school administrators and professional organizations within our community.
• Works to raise societal awareness about sexual violence, domestic violence, healthy relationship, gender equity and racial justice as well as to provide concrete tools for reducing the incidence of interpersonal violence and enhancement of protective factors.
• Actively participates in curriculum development, customization, reporting and evaluation, using best practice and evidence-based research
The Prevention Educator facilitates groups and deliver workshops with teens, young adults, school staff and administrators in primarily high schools and universities using the My Strength, Teen Empowerment Program and Safe Bystander curriculum. These are interactive curricula aimed to deconstruct gender roles and expectations; explore topics of healthy relationship and gender-based violence; and develop the skills necessary to become role models.
We are seeking a highly energetic individual with the ability to make good decisions, prioritize effectively, and work well independently as well as within a team. Essential to this role are demonstrated, exceptional written and oral communication skills and interest in researching and developing evidence-based curriculum. You must have the ability to act as a mentor and role model for the youth by modeling healthy boundaries, empathy and warmth.
Candidates must have a Bachelor Degree or higher or equivalent work experience; passion for social justice and commitment to promoting gender equality. Professional experience or extensive volunteer activity with social justice, gender equality, violence prevention, and serving at risk youth or other related fields are a plus.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to quickly establish rapport with youth,be sensitive to the needs of diverse groups and possess classroom management skills. Keys to success for this role is acceptance and respect for diverse populations, including people of different genders, sexual orientations, socioeconomic status, religious and spiritual beliefs, racial and ethnic backgrounds, age, and physical and mental ability.
Work hours are primarily day-time. Schedule TBD. Delivery of service may include overtime to accomplish task at hand. Work includes lifting up to 30 pounds.
Required: Cleared background check (fingerprinting), valid TB test,valid California driver's license, reliable transportation and auto insurance. Must have completed or be willing to complete 65hr-trained California State Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Counselor certification. (Training will be provided).
