NOW HIRING: PART-TIME DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE

UnCommon Law, prisoners’ rights nonprofit, seeks Development Associate

UnCommon Law’s mission is to provide access to justice and healing for people impacted by incarceration. We deliver trauma-informed mental health and legal counseling to people serving life sentences in California prisons; we represent people in their parole hearings, and we engage in litigation and legislative action to address systemic discrimination in the criminal justice system. We also provide training for prisoners, attorneys, family members and law students in order to improve the overall quality of representation prisoners receive in their parole hearings.

The Development Associate helps UCL reach its fundraising goals by providing core structural support for the organization. Skills that are critical for success in this position include the ability to manage multiple projects and strong attention to detail. Associate reports directly to the Deputy Director and supports the entire office including the Executive Director to help cultivate an organizational fundraising culture.

UCL makes efforts to recruit individuals from groups that are historically underrepresented in professional environments, or that suffer from broader societal discrimination. Because we represent California prisoners and because nearly 70% of them are Black or Latino, members of those groups and formerly incarcerated persons are strongly encouraged to apply for this position.
