Overview:   Summit Academy was created to offer a tuition-free, public middle school alternative to students in CSD 15, specifically targeting the neighborhoods of Red Hook, Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Boerum Hill, Park Slope, Sunset Park, and Windsor Terrace. Summit Academy offers a highly rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum supported by structured school culture. Summit Academy maintains high expectations and a no-excuses approach to ensure that all students are equipped to enter, succeed in and graduate from the most competitive colleges and universities.

OUR MISSION

Summit Academy Charter School bridges the gap between aspirations and realities by preparing 6th through 12th-grade students to gain acceptance to, excel in, and graduate from college by using three pillars of success: mastery of core subjects, character building, and community leadership. By engaging students with an academically rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum and supporting them in a community focused on high academic achievement and strong character building, Summit Academy will prepare our young people to participate meaningfully in the greater economy and expand their choices and opportunities.

The nature of this position requires College and Career Readiness Coordinator to:

MS Programming:

  •  Support 8th-grade scholars and families in choosing the optimal HS program;
  • Assist with the HS application process including submittal of all documentation and testing tickets; 
  • Create and distribute SACS HS program materials;
  • Facilitate town hall meetings for 8th-grade scholars and parents to highlight the accomplishments and specialties of SACS HS;
  • Assist the 8th-grade team with Stepping Up Ceremony planning and execution

HS Programming:

  • Works with staff to implement a coherent and rigorous curriculum aligned with state and national standards in HS;
  • Promotes the use of the consistent instructional framework and research-based strategies that are data-driven;
  • Facilitates lesson plan feedback with HS teachers and formally and informally observes classes to teacher evaluations;
  • Coordinate high school program events and field trips, including a college tour and a local career exploration field trip to NYC companies;
  • Manage and evaluate the tutoring program to ensure that all scholars maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher; Develop and lead evening college readiness workshops, held for each grade level once per month;
  • Create and execute a series of parent education workshops to help parents understand the college application process and to begin saving for college;
  • Manage, facilitate (when applicable) and oversee the ACT/SAT Prep program; Collect scholar grades for each 6-8 week progress report and follow up accordingly;
  • Oversee high school academic course planning from semester to semester and grade level to grade level;
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of the 9th-grade summer program;
  • Collect assessment/evaluation data to measure the success of the program and services. When necessary, select and/or develop evaluation tools;
  • Work with Dean of Scholar Life to design and facilitate Saturday Detention Program for HS, Present at board meetings, or work with board committees, community volunteers, and/or members of the SACS community, at the request of the Principal and Organizational Lead.

  • Interest in social justice and an understanding of Summit Academy Charter School mission
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural competency in working with diverse populations

Salary
