Organization:

The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy is the nonprofit support partner of the Golden Gate National Parks—80,000 acres of national parkland throughout the Bay Area, including Muir Woods, Ocean Beach, Crissy Field, and Alcatraz. The Parks Conservancy is a membership organization created to preserve the Golden Gate National Parks, enhance the experiences of park visitors, and build a community dedicated to conserving the parks for the future. One Tam is an initiative organized by the Parks Conservancy as a partnership between the National Park Service, California State Parks, Marin County Parks, the Marin Municipal Water District and the Parks Conservancy. One Tam is designed to mobilize the skills and resources of the five partners and the community to care for the mountain’s long-term health.

Position Overview: 

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director of One Tam Government and Institutional Support serves as a key revenue generating team member through developing relationships with governmental entities and partners, securing corporate sponsorships and foundation grants, and soliciting project support from high-capacity individual donors. The Director will manage existing relationships and develop new opportunities to build the Parks Conservancy’s and the One Tam program’s current and future financial resources. Primary office location is in San Rafael, CA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

One Tam (80%)

• Take the lead in planning and implementing the current five-year fundraising and marketing plan for One Tam. Work closely with members of the Conservancy Communications team on marketing efforts which the Communications team will lead.

• Develop a long-term sustainability revenue strategy for One Tam, to include assessment of a five-year fundraising plan, and development and implementation of long-term revenue model.

• Provide strategic guidance for development of future revenue generating strategies with Marin County Parks (Measure A) and other agency partners, and capital initiatives identified through One Tam’s 5-Year Strategy. Develop and advance strategies for legislative and ballot measures that provide funding and/or public support for stewardship, restoration or conservation efforts of public lands and other means of support that promote, leverage or enhance the One Tam program and project activities.

• Be the primary leadership contact position with One Tam partner agencies and community entities and organizations when the focus is potentially revenue-generating. Attend all meetings (often as the sole One Tam representative) to guide, inform, and implement strategy to raise funds and build strong collaborative community partnerships. These duties are critical to current and future success of One Tam. Assignment as the lead contact person comes from joint planning with the One Tam Director and Steering Committee, and is acknowledged as the highest level Conservancy staff person for those efforts and relationships.

• Serve as the One Tam partner agency liaison for identifying and advancing grant opportunities for priority One Tam projects and program as defined in the One Tam 5-Year Strategy and Work Plan. Collaborate with the Parks Conservancy grants team to prepare and administer grants.

• Work collaboratively with One Tam partner agency executives and Steering Committee members on securing and leveraging agency contributions.

• Manage a portfolio of individual, foundation, and corporate prospects for One Tam – individuals will specifically have the capacity to give $100,000 and above.

• Provide staff support in conjunction with the EVP, Projects, Stewardship and Science to the One Tam Advisory Committee of the Parks Conservancy’s Board of Trustees.

• Provide consultation and support to fundraising volunteers in conjunction with the Associate Director, One Tam Individual Giving.

Corporate Sponsorship and Support Conservancy wide (15%)

• Working with the Parks Conservancy partners, identify sponsorship opportunities and assets, recommend, design, implement and manage sponsorship plans focused on support for park activities including the opening of the Presidio Tunnel Tops.

• Work with corporate sponsorship prospects to gain a clear understanding of their organizational needs, and develop customized sponsorship and proposal packages.

• Oversee identification of corporate prospects, cultivation and solicitation strategies, and closing of agreements.

Coordination and Management (5%)

• Work in close collaboration with the Director of Strategic Philanthropy and Associate Director of Corporate Relations and Grants on grant proposals and reports for One Tam projects and programs. Ensure even and appropriate distribution of work load and maintain responsibility for timely meeting of deadlines.

• Work in close collaboration with the Associate Director, One Tam Individual Giving on individual giving progress and identifying individuals with capacity to make $100,000+ restricted gifts to One Tam.

Required Qualifications + Experience:

• 7 plus years of professional development experience and 4 years of major gifts and corporate fundraising and direct solicitation experience

• Experience of having established, expanded and cultivated donor relationships over time

• Ability to serve as the primary, lead contact person with governmental, non-profit and for profit organizations representing the Conservancy and One Tam. Skill and ability to make and implement plans with the highest level staff at those organizations

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships

• Strong organizational skills

• Ability to develop strategic, proactive relationships with potential donors, sponsors and corporate partners, and others in the philanthropic community

• Flexible and adaptable, takes initiative and manages multiple tasks and projects

• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight, while also being a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority across multiple organizations

• Ability to construct, articulate, and implement strategic fundraising plan

• Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail

• Experience with relational databases such as The Raiser’s Edge

• Current California drivers’ license with clean driving record

• College degree or similar experience

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift and carry 35 lbs.

• Must be available to periodically work on evenings and weekends

• Job is performed sitting at a desk operating a computer, standing and walking around.

• Job requires working outdoors, leading hikes and other events.
