The Marketing and Communications Associate is a key player on the team that communicates with the outside world, explaining why our mission is important while building our brand. You’ll create compelling communications that explain the change we advocate for and the policies we support. You'll be our brand steward, email guru, and social media maven. You’ll be responsible for juggling multiple, detailed projects, all at the same time, while responding in real-time to breaking news and current affairs.

You’ll report to the Director of Marketing and Communications.

  • You’ll be involved with public relations activities and media management, assisting in:
  • Strategic communications planning, working with the director and our public relations agency.
  • Executing an aggressive plan to increase our media outreach & coverage. This includes media releases, TV/radio interviews, feature stories, PSAs, press conferences, etc.
  • Researching, building, and updating media lists.
  • Handle all updates & improvements on the website.
  • Own our social media, staying on top of breaking news, local politics and community affairs, and national and regional policy and trends. You’re responsible for daily tracking and timely content creation for social media. Proven Twitter expertise is a plus.
  • Write, design and update general and program brochures, media kits, key messages, fact sheets, & other collateral material.
  • Keeper of our photo and video library. Coordinate photography for/of events, activities, etc. for use in publications, media, etc.
  • Closely collaborate with policy and program colleagues to:
  • Understand trends and gather news and stories for use in communications.
  • Coordinate email blasts and social media updates.
  • Develop messaging and framing of our policy and program work.
  • Coordinate regular communications with member agencies, faith allies, partner organizations, decision makers, funders, etc. This includes program and policy developments, successes, and engagement opportunities

Requirements

  • Commitment to achieving systemic change that will break through the barriers to success for all New Yorkers.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment, while finding creative solutions to challenges.
  • Team player with excellent collaboration skills.
  • BA degree in marketing, public or media relations, communications, or related field. Three years of experience in one or more of these fields.
  • Keeps cool when juggling multiple projects and takes pride in producing the highest-quality work while meeting tight deadlines. Highly organized with keen attention to detail.
  • Proven experience in getting results in advocacy or cause-related social media
  • Excellent verbal, written, & presentation skills. Strong editing skills.
  • Experience drafting communications such as press releases, media advisories, and more.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; some knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Digital Savvy – knowledge of CMS like WordPress, Google Analytics, etc.
