Position Description

America Needs You – California launched in 2016 as ANY’s first Partner Fellows Program site. The California program works with two partners, the Ric and Suzanne Kayne Foundation and ScholarMatch, to provide college students with holistic support through graduation and to careers. America Needs You focuses of the career development and mentorship aspects of the Kayne Scholar experience.

The California team delivers approximately 10 Saturday career development workshops and several additional program events annually to three cohorts of Kayne Scholars (ambitious, first-generation college students) and their Mentor Coaches (accomplished young professionals). The team also builds corporate partner/internship host relationships, works with national staff on curriculum design and development, provides support to Kayne Scholars, and recruits a new class of Kayne Scholars and Mentor Coaches each year.

As Program Coordinator, you will serve as a main point of contact for one cohort of Kayne Scholars and Mentor Coaches. You will support Kayne Scholars to explore careers, navigate professional and personal challenges, and source and secure internships by counseling Kayne Scholars both directly and in collaboration with their Mentor Coaches and ScholarMatch College Advisors. The ideal candidate will have experience providing case management or academic/career advisement to college-aged students, will be highly-organized, and enjoy public speaking, multi-tasking and team collaboration. The ideal candidate will also be excited to work in a startup environment/remote office, be a self-starter, and be energized by the ambiguity and opportunity of joining a small, tight-knit team. This role reports directly to the California Program Director and is based in downtown LA’s Arts District.

  • College success (in partnership with Scholar Match College Advisors), including time management, leveraging on-campus resources, and addressing personal issues
  • Support Kayne Scholars’ and Mentor Coaches’ program performance through data tracking, analysis, and follow up, including analyzing program surveys, and monitoring program standing, retention, and relationship development
  • Plan and facilitate Saturday career development workshops for small and large groups (up to 150) and contribute to workshop preparation and execution through tailoring curriculum, coordinating registration and set up, and facilitating active discussions, among other tasks
  • Lead site recruitment efforts for new cohorts of Mentor Coach volunteers and, in collaboration with ScholarMatch, evaluate and select new cohorts of Kayne Scholars
  • Collaborate with staff from partner organizations (such as ScholarMatch College Advisors) to provide seamless student support, including creating and tracking program improvement plans when necessary
  • Contribute to the California strategic growth plan as an active member of our entrepreneurial team
  • Represent ANY-CA at external functions and meetings
