The Role

A senior role reporting to the Chief Marketing & Innovation Officer, the Communications Director will lead, build and run the communications and earned media strategy for XQ. Working closely with the CEO, Chief Strategy & Creative Officer, CMO, Chief Education & Content Officer and all key stake-holders in the organization, the Communications Director will be instrumental in bringing to life the story of XQ, of our Super Schools, and aspire a nation to rethink high schools. The Communications Director will be a strong writer and story-teller, with experience working with high profile leaders. A senior member of the team, we are looking for a person with at least 10 years of communications experience (in public relations and/or journalism) – experience in the educator sector is a very strong advantage. 

Key Responsibilities

o   Drive media and press relationships for XQ – national, local, with a key focus on the education press. Strong knowledge and media relationships in the education sector is a very strong advantage. 

o   Responsible for using earned media to tell the XQ story, the story of our individual schools, our XQ products & tools, and our strategic initiatives.

o   This role is both strategic and tactical: we are looking for someone who will help shape the XQ story and execute on getting it out from pitching media to securing speaking opportunities.

o   Drive and manage speaking opportunities for XQ’s CEO and other C-level executives. 

o   Work with and manage XQ’s education communications agency. 

o   Storyteller: Create communication materials, talking points, opinion pieces, statements. Very strong writing and presentation skills. 

o   Build relationships, internally and externally, with the team and with partners. A team-player and people person. 

o   Ability to understand different mediums and are able to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages, and disseminate it to the right audiences throught the best distribution channels. 

o   Work closely with the CEO, Chief Creative & Strategy Officer, CMO and Office of the CEO to determine tone of voice for XQ communications and leadership. 

o   Experience with social media, in particular Twitter.

o   Experience working with high profile individuals an advantage. 

o   Organised and nimble. Able to adjust when priorities adjust.
