           Job Title: School Counselor/ *School Psychologist


Job Summary


Under the direction of the Director Of Support Services and Executive Director the School Counselor/Psychologist will maximize educational opportunities by teaching students problem solving skills, conflict resolution, and coping strategies.  The School Counselor/Psychologist works with students who struggle socially, emotionally, or behaviorally, helping them to manage those challenges so they can be available for learning.


Primary Responsibilities

Provide individual, small group, and topic specific groups for students in need

Provide interventions for students in crisis

Provide strategies, support, and resources to help teachers manage social/emotional issues in the classroom

Maintain ongoing relationships with various social agencies within the community and make referrals as needed

Report cases of abuse or neglect to school administrators and proper authorities

Attend IEPs meetings and provide evidence of student progress toward goals and objectives

Provide direct services to student on IEP’s and 504 Plans who require counseling in order to access the curriculum

Develop, implement measurable goals and objectives which address student’s emotional needs related to school adjustment

Maintain comprehensive records of student progress

Develop and follow-up on behavior plans for students to increase positive behaviors 


Additional responsibilities

Facilitate parent/teacher workshops on issues related to students social/emotional well being

Serve as member of crisis team 

Lead school in anti-bullying and other positive mental health initiatives

*School Psychologist –administer, score, write report for cognitive and psychological assessments as well as behavior rating checklist.


Qualifications

Master’s degree in counseling, social work or school psychology

Minimum 3 years experience in role of school counselor, social worker or psychologist in a school setting

MA licensure required

Experience in an urban environment preferred
