The Office of Engineering Outreach Programs (OEOP) in the School of Engineering at MIT seeks a program administrator to lead the administration and implementation of the Saturday Engineering Enrichment and Discovery (SEED) Academy. SEED Academy is an academic-year, Saturday enrichment program, which exposes ~135 Boston area middle and high school students to science and engineering fields, while supporting each of them to reach their highest academic potential. This program has had great success in helping underrepresented and underserved students pursue an undergraduate education at top institutions in the region and across the country. 

 

The program administrator for SEED will be charged with continuing this history of success while identifying and implementing strategies to expand and innovate the SEED Program. Reporting to the manager of programs, the program administrator will work in a collaborative implementation team to streamline the operations and processes to run SEED Academy efficiently. The program administrator’s primary responsibility will be to implement all aspects of the program--logistics, planning, staffing and training (50+ temporary undergraduate and professional teaching staff), student recruitment and selection, and communications and engagement with program stakeholders (e.g., parents, students, alumni, vendors, speakers). In addition, the program administrator will uphold Institute policies on working with minors.

 

Required Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s degree, preferably in science, engineering and education

·        At least three years of related experience in program development, program planning, program coordination, and/or education

·        Good judgment with confidential information and in unexpected situations

·        Commitment to diversity and serving diverse constituents

·        Ability to multitask, remain organized, and work effectively in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment

·        Strong interpersonal, facilitation, leadership, project management, oral and written communication and presentation skills

·        Ability to collaborate in a team with diverse backgrounds and skill sets

·        Facility with Microsoft Office tools such as Excel and cloud-based collaboration tools like Google Drive and Dropbox

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·        Master’s degree

·        Training in a scientific/technical field and experience in outreach programs

·        Experience with middle and/or high school students and coordinating various program staff, which includes undergraduates, graduate students and professionals 

·        Written and oral Spanish communication skills

·        Experience and competency in the area of online education and distance learning  


Must be able to travel locally to recruit students and staff and work a varied schedule with evening and weekend hours, including leading programmatic activities on Saturdays in which program is in session. 

Travel and in-person programming will depend upon public health guidance.

 

This is a one-year appointment that may be eligible for renewal contingent upon available funding.
