The Fundraising Consultant plays a crucial role in securing Dress for Success Denver’s (DFSD) success through acquiring, engaging, and retaining donors and contributions to support the organization. Including targeted strategies to secure donations from individuals, foundations, corporations, and government sources. The FC fosters a culture of philanthropy within the organization and assures the development and maintenance of appropriate systems for fund development including, but not limited to, donor management, research and cultivation, and gift processing and stewardship.


● Oversees the organization’s fund development activities including major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, communications, and donor stewardship.

● Review, update, and implement organization fundraising strategies and achieve ambitious donation goals on a short timeline.

● Manages the day-to-day operations of the development function including donor research, prospecting, cultivation, gift recognition and reporting.

● In partnership with the Executive Director, identify prospective donors and supporters and cultivate effective communications and relationships.

● Work with Executive Director to initiate and build relationships with foundations, corporations, and individual donors, and secure funding.

● Coordinate and manage direct annual, annual fundraising campaign(s), including mailings, digital communication, and online giving platforms.

● Identify prospective mid-level and high net worth donors in Colorado/ front range.

● Develop list of top foundation and corporate prospects at the local and national level.

● Manage and track all donor information and develop stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors.

● Assist Executive Director in finding sponsors for special events throughout the year.

● Maintain organization relationships with local donors for fundraising purposes.

● Maintain donor database and coordinate donor campaigns throughout the year.

● Review donor tax letter policy. Facilitate sending and tracking all donor letters.

● Organize media campaigns to recruit donations.


Comprehensive management skills and experience are required including short and long-term strategic planning, oral and written communication skills, marketing and financial management, organizational behavior and development, and governance.

● Significant proven experience in cultivating donors, prospects, and managing a development program.

● Demonstrated success in generating increased funds from individual donors, including securing major gifts.

● Knowledge of the principles and practices of fundraising management with demonstrated experience in implementing and managing a successful, scaled, comprehensive fundraising program to achieve or exceed goals.

● Knowledge and experience in the following areas is required: the nature and dimensions of philanthropy, ethics, motivations for giving and volunteering, research and cultivation practices, standard fundraising techniques including face-to-face solicitation, proposal writing, special events, telephone solicitation, and direct mail, and, development office functions including gift processing, prospect and donor histories, and fundraising reporting.


● Education: minimum of a bachelor’s degree; a graduate degree is desirable. CFRE certification is a plus.

● Familiarity with eTapestry/ Blackbaud software.

● Experience with social media platforms.

● Experience: at least five years of professional fundraising experience with a nonprofit organization, with a solid understanding of funding and budget challenges

● Proven fundraising/development skills are essential; candidates should have a successful track record in identifying, cultivating, and stewarding donors (individuals, corporations, and foundations) in a range of development activities (major gifts, annual campaign, planned giving, endowment building, etc.)

● Excellent communications skills (oral, written, and presentation) are essential.


● An innovative self-starter who can build a strategic approach to increasing financial resources and execute a tactical plan that delivers.

● A skilled fundraiser who can build relationships, grow and steward a diverse donor base, and anticipate and implement new methods of funding

● An excellent communicator who can present effectively the organization’s goals and programs and their value to prospective donors

● An individual with the integrity, demeanor, experience, and commitment to the Dress for Success Denver’s mission

Scope of Work:

DFSD is seeking a Fundraising Consultant with a proven track record for excellence in developing fundraising plans and developing an organizations’ fundraising capacity.

The consultant’s responsibilities will include:

1. A kick-off meeting with the DFSD team to align on scope, priorities, workplan and deliverables.

2. Conduct an audit of DFSD’s fundraising capacity. Identify strengths and weaknesses of existing fundraising efforts and infrastructure to determine areas for improvement and

development. Assess the opportunities and threats external to the organization as well as organization readiness that will inform the fundraising plan to ensure its success.

3. Creating a prospect list that includes potential donors (private sector, governments, foundations, individuals, and others) that work to support DFSD’s vision (encompassing Mobile Boutique, Retail store, and expansion efforts). List will also contain upcoming RFPs and relevant application procedures and deadlines.

4. Integrate existing DFSD pitch deck into your fundraising efforts.

5. Develop an operation manual for all development efforts that will inform DFSD of ongoing processes and credentials for databases and software that support this position.


• Fundraising capacity audit submitted by the end of week three.

• Developing a strategic multi-year fundraising and implementation plan that includes strategies to increase DFSD’s fundraising efforts to more diversified revenue streams that are reflective and in alignment with the organization’s mission/vision/values and capacity.

• Schedule meetings with corporations and foundations for Dress for Success Denver’s Executive Director to present, pitch and solicit to.

• One successful publication in magazine, newspaper, or foundation newsletter highlighting Dress for Success Denver’s story.

• Develop three new community sponsorships of $2500+ by 12/31/2021.

• Increase the corporate (including new foundation grant leads) and individual contributions by a minimum of $30,000 over 2020 amounts.

• Maintain donor follow up to one week. (Letter, email, or phone call depending on amount given).


The selection of the fundraising consultant is expected to proceed as indicated below:

Terms and conditions, and payment:

The Fundraising Consultant will work an initial contract of 9 months, from April 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021. S/he will report to, and work closely with, Dress for Success Denver’s Executive Director and be expected to provide a monthly report to the Board of Directors.

Most of the work will be carried out remotely, with weekly meetings with the Executive Director at Dress for Success. The Denver’s address is:

Achievements will be reviewed monthly and at the end of 9-month contract.

The fees for the 9-month period are capped at $22,500, with an opportunity to receive a pre-agreed to bonus, for over achievement of dollars raised.
