Bilingual Digital Organizer

Workers’ Dignity/Dignidad Obrera, a 10-year old multi-racial, multi-lingual worker center based in Nashville, Tennessee is seeking qualified applications for a Digital Organizer. We are a worker-led center organizing for economic and racial justice and dignity for all! Through a member-led process including assemblies and leadership development, we organize strategic campaigns to build worker power in Middle Tennessee. Currently, our program areas include: Commercial Construction Worker Organizing; the Participatory Democracy Program; Wage Theft Recovery; and WDYO 104.1FM Radio.

We are seeking a Digital Organizer based in Nashville, TN to help build, manage, and implement two major campaigns digitally for the Participatory Democracy Program and the Commercial Construction Worker Organizing Campaign.

  • We're building political power through Participatory Democracy Projects that support everyday people to take active roles in developing and implementing policies that transform our living conditions.
  • We’re fighting for safe construction worksites with worker-led monitoring, freedom from exploitation, and living-wages through our commercial construction campaign. We facilitate weekly Know Your Rights and training workshops to support workers to run campaigns to improve health, safety and dignity at work. 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Building and managing distributed worker-member and volunteer teams and structures alongside Unemployed Workers United and the Workers’ Dignity Participatory Democracy and Commercial Construction Worker Organizing programs.
  • Manage social media or digital spaces like Facebook, Twitter, and others assigned
  • Building the size and capacity of our membership base and volunteer teams, enabling us to supplement the mass-scale organizing efforts of our movement issues
  • Manage email campaigns and outreach
  • Empower worker-members and volunteer leaders to help run our programs, including moderating our Slack channel, hosting live volunteer trainings, manage distributed organizing campaigns, and other duties assigned
  • Create a compassionate and rich culture in virtual spaces, and helping to share our political analysis with our member and volunteer base
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Based in Nashville, Tennessee or the surrounding area
  • Fluent bilingual speaker, reader, and writer in both English and Spanish
  • Comfortable working remotely
  • 1-2 years of campaign experience as an organizer or in distributed organizing
  • Experience with distributed organizing tools or systems, such as Slack, Zoom Google Suite, etc.
  • Experience with volunteer leadership development and managing remote volunteer teams (​or equivalent non-staff experience, volunteer organizing experience is welcome!)​
  • Coordinate with the necessary staff and lead volunteers to provide deliverables towards organizing goals for Workers’ Dignity campaigns
  • Supervise and moderate member and volunteer teams while building new systems, running check-in calls, and empowering super volunteers
  • Skilled with a spreadsheet, data savvy and comfortable with technology


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with campaign/digital organizing tools
  • Experience with base-building and/or membership organizations
  • Strong commitment to racial, social, economic, and gender justice
  • Strong commitment to innovative political & direct action by and for working people
  • A goal-driven, detail-oriented self-starter and problem-solver with ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and challenge people to take risks in order to make change


SALARY & BENEFITS

$50,000. Benefits include full medical, dental and vision insurance/PPO for staff and dependents with no monthly premium. Two weeks paid vacation, two weeks PTO, and 10 paid holidays per year. The Digital Organizer will receive a professional development fund to use at their discretion.


EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time, regular, exempt. This is a grant-funded, one year position, with options to extend based on available funding.
