Title: Accounting Associate

Department: Finance

Reports To: Finance and Operations Sr.Manager

Work Schedule: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday through Friday

Nature of Position: This is a full-time, exempt position that includes full benefits

Location: PFLAG National Office, Washington, DC - hybrid position with a minimum of two days in the

office.

Summary: The Accounting Associate assists the Finance and Operations Sr. Manager in the financial administration and operations of the organization. This includes conducting activities and tasks involving bookkeeping and financial reporting, among others. This position involves working with staff and third parties, including vendors, in a collegial and professional manner.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and enter all activities related to accounts payables. Ensure timely and accurate processing of all invoices with proper coding, documentation, and appropriate approvals.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations of all accounts as assigned, including bank accounts, credit cards, and others as identified.
  • Generate invoices in collaboration with program staff.
  • Maintain a record of accounts receivable activities in financial systems and ensure adequate follow-up to secure payments.
  • Assist with the preparation and mailing of tax filings such as 1099s, W-2S, and ACA compliance forms, as needed.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of confidentiality with all financial information, both internally and externally.
  • Complete special projects, research, and other tasks as assigned. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least one year of experience in a finance-related role.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, Expensify, and Salesforce.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and have a collegial working style.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills.
  • Comfortable working with remote employees.
  • Commitment to the vision and mission of PFLAG.

Desirable Skills:

  • Solid general computer experience, including use of the internet, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office, including proficiency in Excel or other spreadsheet software
  • Experience with general office equipment including network and desktop copiers, scanners, telephone systems, and video calls/meetings, among others
