Job Announcement – Staff Accountant

Job Summary:

The Staff Accountant supports charitable gift and grant accounting, AR/cash receipts and accounts payable processes. Responsibilities include transaction processing, daily deposits, credit card reconciliation, journal entry preparation, and the accounts payable process for updating and create new vendor accounts.

The positions work involves a moderate degree of complexity and difficulty based on the necessity to analyze incomplete data and respond to a wide diversity of questions. The position has occasional responsibility for the input or innovation of new programs, methods, systems, or procedures.  

The annual recruiting salary range is $61,500 - $65,500 DOE. This position is open until filled. First consideration will be given to applications received within two weeks of posting.

Essential Duties:

  • Reviews, analyzes, prepares, and processes pledges, gifts, grants, designated agencies, payment transactions, adjustments, and journal entries ensuring accuracy of entry and consistency of processes.
  • Manages daily deposit processes, reconciles and enters cash receipts, prepares related journal entries and researches, and resolves any bank-deposit discrepancies.
  • Reconciles daily credit card payments, updates credit card information, and processes credit card charges as needed.
  • Prepares W-9’s and 1099’s for employees and vendors, and maintains and updates vendor/employee information.
  • Processes employee expense reports and advance requests, prepares checks and journal entries, maintains files, and resolves related inquiries.
  • Voids checks in accounting system, and processes outstanding check affidavits and agency checks returned in the mail.
  • Offers vendors and agencies the EFT (direct deposit) option via mail merges and related forms. Inputs confidential banking information into the eBanking Suite module.
  • Supports and works with team members to troubleshoot and translate data feeds/reports from financial systems that support journal entries to the General Ledger.
  • Supports the financial audit by providing documentation and explanations about transactions and processes.
  • Takes responsibility for transaction back-up archiving and retention requirement compliance for assigned areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, specializing in accounting or related field. Must have at least 3 years accounting experience; accounts payable and AR/cash receipts experience a plus.
