Primary Duties and Responsibilities 

The Chief Operations Officer performs a wide range of duties including the following:

• Effectively provide leadership and direction for the core operations of JLUSA: Leadership, Membership, Communications and Business Operations departments;

• Identify the resources and needs of Leadership, Membership, Communications and Business Operations departments, and execute the search for third party services as needed;

• Oversee and compile program budgets; 

• Maintain appropriate internal controls and procedures; 

• Produce timely, accurate, and useful reports on grants and programs for funders, foundations, executive team, and Board of Directors; 

• Work with the President/CEO in developing organizational strategy and ensuring program execution;

• Participate in policy development as a member of the executive team;

• Bring strategic, visionary, collaborative thinking to the operations and leadership function of the organization;

• Develop and implement innovative strategic initiatives in direct support of JLUSA’s mission, goals and objectives; 

• Oversee monitoring and evaluation, and ensure accurate, timely reporting; 

• Working with the department directors, review progress reports and respond to programmatic and technical challenges experienced by implementing partners; 

• Monitor and oversee maintenance of Salesforce database;

• Oversee the reporting of relevant data from each department;

• Work with Directors to ensure they have support and resources to run the departments efficiently;

• Lead development, planning, implementation, and analysis of special initiatives that may arise;

• Develop framework to ensure that initiatives are in line with strategy and brand; and

• Execute special projects at the direction of the President, maintain confidentiality and wield discretion on sensitive issues;

• Strong financial skills;

• Proficiency in Microsoft, Excel and, Word required; experience with Salesforce;

• Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills, collaborative instincts, sense of humor, and charm; and

• Comfort working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.


• Degree in Business Administration

• 4+ years experience managing non-profit human resources, finances, operations and strategies

• Proven track record of managing complex budgets successfully.
