Faith in Place empowers Illinois people of all faiths to be leaders in caring for the Earth, providing resources to educate, connect, and advocate for healthier communities.


Position Description

A Bronzeville Outreach Coordinator is sought for Faith in Place, a state-wide 501(c)3 nonprofit focused on engagement with diverse faith communities around environmental education, programs, and action. This position will launch a satellite office of Faith in Place in Bronzeville, oversee all outreach to diverse faith communities in Bronzeville, and be responsible for promoting all 4 program areas of Faith in Place: Energy & Climate Change, Sustainable Food & Land Use, Water Preservation, and Advocacy. The Bronzeville Outreach Coordinator actively participates in development strategy, shaping a funding strategy for programs relevant to faith communities throughout the South Side of Chicago. This position also works closely with the Chicago Communications team to draft emails and other communications with content relevant to Bronzeville.


Responsibilities

·        Direct engagement with faith communities:

o  Inspire the implementation of Faith in Place’s programs in Bronzeville, working alongside clergy, Green Team leaders, and faith communities.

o  Connect clergy, Green Team leaders, and faith communities to each other in their shared Earth care work.

o  Help interested faith communities form Green Teams.

o  Serve as a Green Team Coach to a portfolio of diverse faith communities in Bronzeville and surrounding neighborhoods.

·        Meet monthly and quarterly outreach and event goals in each program area per grant deliverables.

·        Help develop and guide development strategy to fund the Bronzeville office of Faith in Place, meeting fundraising goals from individuals and houses of worship.

·        Participate in monthly Board Subcommittees

·        Work with the Communications Team to send a monthly newsletter and other relevant information to Faith in Place supporters in and near Bronzeville.

·        Participate in weekly staff meetings and quarterly staff retreats

·        Regular communication and collaboration with entire Faith in Place Outreach Staff

·        Flexible schedule to work evenings and weekends

·        Regular data entry and ability to navigate database

·        Other activities as required


Qualifications

·        Required Qualifications:

o  Passion for environmental issues and economic/social justice

o  Exceptional verbal communication skills – comfort in speaking to large groups, facilitating small group discussions, and excelling at one-on-one interactions

o  Ability to effectively communicate and work with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds, religious, and political beliefs

o  Strong organizational ability and experience in meeting established goals within tight time frames

o  Familiarity with standard business computer applications

o  Ability and willingness to motivate individuals to take action regarding Earth care–prior experience in sales, organizing, or faith community life is a plus

o  Access to reliable transportation and a cell phone

·        Preferred Qualifications:

o  History of living in and engaging with the Bronzeville community

o  At least 2 years of community organizing experience in Bronzeville

o  Strong written communication skills

o  Demonstrated experience in effectively leading and collaborating with volunteers–management or supervisory experience

o  Experience working for a 501c3 nonprofit with a partner 501c4 organization

This is a full-time Exempt position.
