The Fruitlands Museum is a Massachusetts’ historical and natural treasure. The museum is home to five collections and encompasses 210 acres of picturesque meadows and woods. The Museum offers a wide variety of activities: you can go on a hike, learn about the lives of Transcendentalists and Shakers, explore the geographically diverse collections in the Native American Gallery or be inspired by Hudson River School landscapes and contemporary exhibits in the Art Gallery.


The Opportunity.

The primary role of the Public Program Assistant is to support museum visitors as they deepen their connections to and appreciation of local nature, history and culture. The Public Programming Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Fruitland’s Engagement Manager with the promotion and implementation of public programming with a focus on recurring after-hours events including (but not limited to) Sunset Picnic Hours, Concerts, and Fire Pit Evenings. This position encompasses a wide scope of work and will enable a nimble and versatile professional to enjoy a position where no two days are ever the same. Tasks may range from event set up and decoration, event promotion and social media, greeting/checking in participants upon arrival, selling memberships and providing membership information to event attendees, and much more. Essential Functions & Skills.

·        Assist Engagement Manager in all engagement related programs including but not limited to: Summer and Fall Concert Series, Sunset Fire Pits, Fall Artisan Markets, and Nature: A Walking Play.

·        Program duties include registration, set-up, break-down, promotion, correspondence with program partners, managing staff assistance

·        Creation of branded content such as event flyers, as well as contributing to and in some cases developing unique Fruitlands Museum social media content (Facebook and Instagram)

·        Use of our POS sale system to sell registrations and memberships and assist with retail sales as needed

·        Being a Fruitlands Museum/Trustees ambassador and creating awareness of our mission to our community

·        Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

·        A passion for sharing history, art, and nature with a diverse public audience

·        Outgoing, friendly, and enjoys working with the public including children and families

·        Can-do and professional attitude with strong attention to detail

·        Organized and able to work independently as well as part of a team

·        Strong written and oral communication skills

·        Experience working with social media platforms

·        Proficient in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new technology systems including acme ticketing and shopify point of sale system

·        Available to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings

·        Articulate with the ability to remain confident and calm when confronted by uncooperative visitors and when handling emergencies

·        Committed to the mission of The Trustees

Other:

  • Valid driver’s license required for driving TTOR vehicles
  • Background check required
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends is required; access to a car is necessary.
  • Able to climb stairs and stand for periods of 2 hours or more at a time
  • Comfortable with variable outdoor weather conditions 
  •  Ability to lift 40 pounds required

·        This is a seasonal, non-exempt, hourly position which pays $15 per hour. Season runs through early December with possibility to extend
