Summer Quest’s mission is to ignite intellectual curiosity, prepare students for competitive exams and to cultivate academic development through a variety of inquiry and project-based enrichment classes throughout the summer. Our goal is to offer rising 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th graders a competitive advantage for the upcoming school year.


Program Description:

•             Teacher Orientation: June 27th and 28th, 2018

•             Summer Program: July 9th – August 10th 2018

•             Hours: Monday – Thursday, 8:30am – 1:30pm, two 90 minute classes


Summer Quest Teacher Summary:

Summer Quest SHSAT Prep instructors develop and implement an English curriculum that prepares students to successfully take the Specialized High School Aptitude Test (SHSAT), noting the changes in this year’s test. Students will learn test-taking strategies, and take practice exams. The ideal candidate will be able to utilize progressive didactic, coaching and discussion instruction models. Teachers document and assess student progress throughout the summer program. The ability to create a safe and rich learning environment is essential.


Job Requirements:

·           B.A. in education, English or related field (M.A. preferred)

·           NYC/NYS certification in middle grades ELA or related area strongly preferred

·           Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in middle school or high school

·           Experience in cooperative learning groups and inquiry-based learning techniques

·           Excellent interpersonal skills

·           Impeccable classroom management skills

·           Willingness to promote HEAF educational and youth development philosophy

·           Ability to work collaboratively with the HEAF staff

·           Ability and willingness to commit to entire summer program
