The older adults comprising the DOROT community range in age from 60 to over 100 and represent a diverse population. Approximately 6,000 volunteers of all ages are recruited every year to serve side-by-side with DOROT’s staff of social workers and program and volunteer administrators to improve the lives and health of older adults and address the challenges of an aging society.

Position Summary: The Operations Assistant supports and reports to the Operations Manager. The primary function of this position is to provide support to DOROT’s onsite and remote staff by managing incoming and outgoing mail and fulfilling print and mailing requests in a timely and efficient manner and performing routine maintenance tasks. Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment. Duties involve operation of personal computer, mailing and printing equipment for most of the daily assignment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for proper storage, organization, and inventory of all office, building and stationery supplies
  • Receive USPS mail, UPS, FedEx and other deliveries daily
  • Sort and distribute mail and deliveries daily
  • Use Xerox machine to process all print and copy requests
  • Use folding machine when required for special mailing projects
  • Use mail machine to process all outgoing mail daily
  • Deliver mail to the Post, UPS and FedEx offices
  • Support DOROT staff during DOROT events
  • Perform routine maintenance activities inside the building : such as change light bulbs, complete touch up painting, clean light fixtures, sweep, vacuum, and mop floors
  • Complete small repairs
  • Maintain the outside entrance, roof garden, backyard and roof
  • Daily trash and recycling collection and disposal for DSNY pick up
  • Run DOROT errands as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Some college or technical education is preferred
  • Previous experience in an office, retail or client service setting
  • Must be comfortable learning how to use and operating mailroom and other tech equipment
  • Must be able to walk, sit, stand, bend, lift, and move continually during working hours
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to provide excellent client service
  • Must possess excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to be flexible, work as part of a team, and work independently
  • Ability to manage time and tasks by working efficiently
  • Knowledge of MS Office and Windows server operating systems

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a Part Time position. Expected work hours are variable. Must be available for work Monday through Friday and Sunday during the day, and occasional evenings.
