The Homeless Children’s Playtime Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing trauma-informed and educational play programs, as well as advocating for families living in emergency and transitional housing programs. Playtime's programs inspire joy and help support resilience and access to community resources for children and youth who are experiencing homelessness.

Position: We are seeking a part-time Site Manager or a floater position (for about 12 hours/week) who would be responsible for running two program sessions each week in the evenings and guiding a team of volunteers in providing superior service delivery. Right now, the majority of our children's programs take place in small groups outdoors on shelter playgrounds, with masks and increased sanitation practices in place. We are also preparing to return indoors to our playrooms at our shelter partner sites in the coming months.

Core Duties:

Program Delivery: Deliver meaningful play opportunities designed to nurture social-emotional skills, creative problem solving, and a sense of optimism for small groups of children. Oversee play programs for two sessions per week by facilitating and supervising safe, age-appropriate, guided activities with intentional therapeutic and educational benefits. Maintain the playroom's procedures and expectations with a focus on the positive discipline model. Maintain routine, boundaries, and positive communication with children, families, partners, and other stakeholders.  

Compliance & Reporting:  Must be able to produce or obtain an FBI and MPD clearance, Negative TB test result, negative drug test, Covid vaccine, and other background checks as required.  Ensure compliance with requirements for weekly program service documentation, which includes collecting nightly outcome evaluation data for each child, attendance, surveys, registration forms, and incident reports. Must enter corresponding forms into Apricot database weekly.

Resource Delivery: Work collaboratively with the program team to assist in providing fun, creative, varied and intentional, as well as culturally and developmentally appropriate activities for children and youth. Stock materials and supplies for activities to ensure that all planned activities that can be implemented on site. Support distribution from donation drives such as holiday toys, play kits, coat drives, and other special initiatives as needed.

Education & Experience: 

  • Associate's degree is required (child development or education background preferred) 
  • At least 2-5 years working in the youth service field serving children between the ages of six months and twelve years old, within a high-needs community implementing structured programming
  • Prior training or experience working with youth with a trauma- informed approach and positive youth development emphasis

Schedule:

The ideal candidate is available Mondays and Wednesday evenings or Tuesday and Thursday evenings (there are no Friday evening programs). Please detail your schedule and availability in your cover letter. Ideally, candidate would also be available for Tuesday staff meetings remotely at 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Reliable transportation to get to and from multiple worksites on time
  • Willingness to work outdoors on the playground in less than ideal weather at times
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Dependable, consistent, and committed to mission
  • Mature work ethic and approach to teamwork and collaboration
  • Position requires active movement, ability to lift 20 pounds, etc.
