REPORTS TO: Senior Director of Resource Development



The Arab-American Family Support Center (AAFSC) is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization established in 1994 to provide culturally and linguistically competent, trauma-informed social services. Across our twelve locations, we empower immigrants and refugees with the tools they need to successfully acclimate to the world around them and become active participants in the community. While we support anyone who walks through our doors, over nearly 26 years, we have developed expertise in serving the Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian (AMEMSA) immigrant and refugee communities.

AAFSC works across four priority areas—Promote, Get Ready, Prevent, and Communicate—to achieve our ultimate goal of strengthening families. AAFSC promotes mental and physical wellbeing, food security, healthy relationships, and family reunification. We get our families ready to succeed, work, and lead productive lives. We prevent domestic violence, child abuse, and neglect by counseling families, offering case management services to victims of violence, and cultivating healthy relationship skills in young people. Finally, AAFSC communicates the needs of the marginalized, amplifying their voices for increased impact.



AAFSC is looking for a dynamic and detail-oriented professional to oversee key development & communications projects. A successful person in this role will be an effective writer and a creative thinker. This person should have a record as a trusted partner to senior leadership and exhibit strong work ethic. The Development and Communications Coordinator will be organized, attentive to detail, and have the capacity to thrive under pressure while working on multiple projects. A commitment to immigrant, refugee, and low-income communities is essential for this role.



·       Collaborate with Program staff and Resource Development team to effectively share the AAFSC story with our target audience.

·       Creatively employ a range of communication tools – including email newsletters, social media, website, video and others.

·       Manage communications calendar.

·       Maintain and manage content and regular updates on the AAFSC website, blog, and social media platforms in coordination with Associate and Senior Director of Resource Development.

·       Draft and send organizational newsletters and eBlasts.

·       Track and report on metrics related to communications efforts.

·       Identify areas for improvement, as needed.

·       Creatively consider new ways to engage donors.

·       Support in the implementation of the organization’s Internal and External Communication Plan.

·       Manage staff intranet and internal newsletters.

·       Support in the creation of AAFSC flyers and other communications materials.

·       Manage AAFSC’s info inbox.


·       Support the creation and management of fundraising plan and oversee accurate record keeping related to AAFSC funding streams.

·       Develop fundraising plan to cultivate individual donors.

·       Track and report on individual donations and grants using Bloomerang.

·       Work with finance team to reconcile pledges and receivables.

·       Ensure accuracy in record-keeping related to funding, and funder’s history/profiles including but not limited to donor databases.

·       Manage the donor acknowledgement process.

·       Develop and manage opportunities for potential donors to engage with AAFSC.

·       As needed, contact prospective and current donors through electronic and in-person communication.

·       Work with AAFSC’s leadership to expand revenue sources through prospect identification, research, and strategic outreach.

·       Lead at least two cultivation events per year.

·       Support in development, planning, management, implementation, and follow up for all fundraising and cultivation activities.

·       Develop and continually update events calendar.

 Volunteer Management & Corporate Engagement  

·       Manage volunteer program for AAFSC, including but not limited to recruitment, volunteer orientation, volunteer engagement and retention, and communications.

·       In partnership with Senior Director of Resource Development, develop a strategy to recruit volunteers and convert them into long-term supporters.

·       Manage relationship with NYC Care.

·       Identify potential members for the Advisory Council. 

·       In partnership with Senior Director of Resource Development, develop and implement a strategy for building a portfolio of corporate partners.

·       Involve other stakeholders in problem-solving and decision-making to gain buy-in and alignment.

·       Represent the program confidently in interactions with volunteers.

 Ambassador & Champion

·       Every AAFSC team member serves as an ambassador of the organization and champion of AAFSC’s mission, vision and values. This includes the following:

o   Cultivate relationships on behalf of and in support of the organization in partnership with Senior Leadership and the Resource Development team. This includes being sensitive to and aware of others, providing every client, partner and participant with high-quality service, professional communication, and follow through, and always keeping Senior Leadership and the Resource Development team aware of any opportunities, challenges, or updates.

o   All team members are expected to support the Resource Development team with any requests in a timely manner, including, but not limited to: grant applications, reports, attendance at meetings, hearings, or other events, and sharing of AAFSC social media, flyers, and other externally-facing communications.

o   Always act with integrity, positivity, dedication, and professionalism within the office and externally. This includes, but is not limited to, email communication, verbal communication, communication with colleagues and peers, communication with clients, or communication with external partners or agencies.

 Other duties and responsibilities

·       Participate in AAFSC meetings, trainings, and events.

·       Perform other duties assigned as necessary.

·       Attend external meetings and trainings as scheduled.


·       Bachelor’s degree required.

·       Experience with social media, WordPress, and donor management systems.

·       Experience tailoring communications to multiple audiences

·       Experience with graphic design preferred.

·       Passion for learning, problem-solving, and creative thinking.

·       Able to thrive in an environment of innovation--stretching resources and managing knowledge.

·       Excellent organizational, time-management, follow-up, and administrative skills with a strong attention to detail.

·       Self-starter with the ability to work independently, and as a part of a team, in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.

·       Experience working with immigrant, refugee and low-income communities preferred.

·       Strong technology skills, including using Microsoft Office products as well as navigating and using government and internal databases.

·       Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends to manage crises, attend events, or meetings.

·       Job contingent on pre-employment background check and fingerprint clearance.

·       U.S. Work Authorization is required.
