    Description

    Powerhouse Arts is a not-for-profit organization committed to creative expression. Housed in a purpose-built- facility in Brooklyn, the organization hosts an extended network of art and fabrication professionals and educators who work together to co-create and share artistic practices vital to the well-being of artists and the communities to which they serve. Our new facilities house fabrication services, production services, production spaces, and member workshops for artisans.

    PHA is seeking a Development Manager who will be a fundamental member of the growing Development team. Reporting to the Development Director the Development Manager will play a vital role in the activation of a robust development strategic plan, overseeing the management of individual giving, cultivation, and fundraising events, and contributing to all development efforts and operations as PHA diversifies contributed revenue streams.

    The Development Manager will own the moves management system: identifying, researching, tracking, and cultivating prospects, specifically focused on increasing individual donors and collectors. This role will be responsible for coordinating special events throughout the year, providing lead support in the producing PHA’s annual benefit dinner, the opening night fundraiser for the launch of the Brooklyn Fine Art Print Fair, and other major fundraisers.

    The ideal candidate is deeply engaged with arts and cultural communities and committed to developing meaningful relationships and support for PHA’s mission, vision, and ambitious strategic objectives.

    Responsibilities include but not limited to:

    Development Management

    • Design and implement yearly goals and strategy for individual and annual giving in partnership with Development Director
    • Develop and launch annual fund campaigns.
    • Identify new opportunities for partnerships and contributed income.
    • Prepare solicitations and proposals with input and support from Development Director.
    • Schedule meetings and tours for development prospects and partners
    • Support the Development Director in nurturing individual donor to deepen engagement and secure financial support
    • The Development Manager will support the Development Director, Institutional Giving Manager, and President in stewarding donors, board members, and partners.
    • Manage gift receiving, processing, and tracking in support of development and finance teams
    • Craft written communications and marketing collateral for donor mailings and solicitations, membership materials, newsletters, event invitations, sponsorship proposals & decks, annual reports, and acknowledgment correspondence.
    • Support the development of the PHA Print Publishing Program, identifying artists for consideration, drafting marketing materials, and liaising with collectors through edition launches, art fairs, exhibitions, and sales campaigns.
    • Identify and create opportunities for donor recognition and stewardship (e.g., building and managing a donor circle), ensuring that individual donors feel valued, appreciated, and connected to PHA.

    Development Special Events Management

    • Coordinate logistics for quarterly events for groups of up to 25+ such as receptions, studio visits, and offsite tours for PHA Patrons, major donors, and board members with collaborating artists and cultural partners.
    • Support in producing the annual fundraising benefit dinner, managing sponsor, host, and committee invitations, tracking and communications, and overarching logistics.
    • Manage Art Fair Partnerships:
      1. Submit VIP lists to local and international contemporary art fairs for donors and board members.
      2. Organize cultural partnership events with select fairs
      3. Support PHA’s exhibitor participation with the PHA Publishing Program in select fairs
    • Oversee development’s calendar of cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising events.

    Database & Moves Management

    • Manage portfolio of individual giving prospects: Identify, conduct regular prospect research, cultivate, and advance solicitations for annual and major gifts, PHA Patrons, and special events.
    • Organize and schedule monthly moves meetings, establishing the agenda, pulling prospect and donor reports for development & executive leadership.
    • Track individual donors in Salesforce, noting meetings, action items, and donations, run wealth screenings on prospects.
    • Participate in Salesforce-specific and Development-focused webinars and trainings

    Other Responsibilities:

    • Greet guests, escort them to meeting locations and provide tours and hospitality as needed
    • Co-supervise Development Intern with the Institutional Giving Manager
    • Manage and work some events that may take place outside working hours
    • Attend staff meetings and participate in training sessions

    • 3+ years of relevant work experience in a similar role
    • Experience managing donor affinity groups and development special events
    • Familiarity with contemporary artists, galleries, and organizations and art market knowledge
    • Creative and big picture thinker with history of initiating and advancing revenue through meaningful campaigns, events, and fundraising efforts
    • Knowledge of NYC philanthropy, social, and art circles, and major supporters of the arts
    • Finger on the pulse of current fundraising trends, best practices, and resources
    • Proactive, creative, positive, and resourceful problem solver and communicator
    • Possess sound judgement, candor, diplomacy, empathy, and discretion in donor relations
    • Comfortable engaging with people, cultivating relationships, and facilitating solicitations
    • Highly organized and detail-oriented
    • Ability to work well autonomously, with and across internal teams, and with external partners
    • Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills
    • Proficient in donor CRM management, reporting, and external integrations
    • Experience with Adobe Design Suite preferred
    • Experience with gift tracking, acknowledgment, and reporting
    • Passionate about PHA’s mission
    • 3 days in person / 2 remote with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for event coverage

    Compensation & Benefits:

    Salary range is $80,000-$95,000 and commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance, an employer-sponsored retirement plan, generous paid vacation, and a Citibike membership.
