WOMEN’S COMMUNITY REVITALIZATION PROJECT

The Women’s Community Revitalization Project (WCRP), founded in 1987, is committed to social and economic equity for low-income women and their families. WCRP develops affordable housing, provides supportive services, advocates for policy change, honors and promotes leadership, dignity and justice in our communities.

The Job of Community Organizer

Under the supervision of the Organizing Director, it is the responsibility of the Community Organizer to develop and implement WCRP’s organizing and advocacy work. These efforts support the organization’s housing and equitable development agenda as well as serve as a vehicle for the development of leadership in the community as a whole.

Responsibilities

• Work in WCRP’s neighborhoods to bring community residents and institutions together to fight for equitable development policies and programs
• Have one-on-one conversations through door-knocking and phone calls
• Develop and maintain relationships to build the organization’s visibility and impact
• Support community planning and housing development efforts
• Support WCRP’s constituents in developing their leadership and organizing skills

Requirements

• A minimum of two years’ experience in community organizing, with a demonstrated commitment to the field. Significant volunteer experience may be accepted in lieu of paid experience.  
• Demonstrated capacity to provide leadership and to build and nurture the leadership of others.
• Strong listening and writing skills; computer literacy required.
• Experience managing volunteers and planning decision-making meetings for diverse groups.
• Ability to create and co-facilitate interactive workshop agendas.
• Commitment to social justice for the poor, especially low-income women and children.
• Ability to work as a member of a team and independently
• Availability to work some evenings and weekends

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Familiarity with issues, especially housing, which impact low income families
• Knowledge of Philadelphia city government and politics
• Driver’s license and access to a car

Salary range is $35,000- $45,000 per year. Excellent benefits, including employer-provided health care and generous time off.
