JOB SUMMARY:

The Outreach Coordinator is primarily responsible for growing Community Mediation DC’s mediation caseload and relationships with referral partners through outreach. The coordinator schedules and delivers workshops and presentations, supports outreach events and partnership meetings, and helps build and maintain relationships with referral partners including organizations and individuals. This position will receive training in mediation, intake, workshop facilitation, and conflict coaching in order to support service delivery over time.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Community Outreach and Service Delivery (75%)

  • Schedule outreach opportunities including group workshops, presentations, and participation in community events
  • Present about community mediation to current and potential partners, especially those serving returning residents (formerly incarcerated individuals)
  • Participate in community outreach events
  • Coordinate volunteers to increase volunteer participation at outreach events
  • Assist with managing ongoing recruitment of mediators and ambassadors
  • Mediate cases
  • Conduct intake and follow-up surveys for mediations with formerly incarcerated individuals
  • Provide conflict coaching
  • Participate in Basic Mediation Training, Conflict Management Train-the-Trainers, Conflict Coaching training as needed

Partnership Development (25%)

  • Track referrals and follow up with partners
  • Coordinate and support with quarterly partnership meetings
  • Identify and steward potential new reentry mediation referral partners
  • Support marketing and other communication efforts with reentry partners as needed

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience with outreach in DC; Knowledge and/or experience with a community mediation program is a plus
  • Commitment to mediation and/or non-violent, collaborative conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated administrative capacity to organize trainings and coordinate services
  • Excellent active listening and interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate with people of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, in person, by telephone and in written messages
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Drive (ability to create and navigate spreadsheets and google forms)
  • Receptive to constructive feedback
  • Self-starter with strong initiative and decisiveness
  • Big picture oriented and comfortable in a small and growing organization
  • Ability to respect and protect client confidentiality
  • Willing and interested in getting training in Inclusive Mediation, already trained by Community Mediation Maryland is a plus
  • Highly encourage formerly incarcerated individuals or those with incarcerated loved ones to apply

Role Details:

  • Part-time position, 15-20 hours/week, 3-4 days/week with the potential to increase hours over time (flexible schedule with a mix of remote and in-person work, includes weekday evenings and some Saturdays)
  • Per Mayor’s Order 2021-099, all CMDC staff must be i) fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or (ii) granted one of the exemptions identified in Section III of the Order and undergo weekly COVID-19 testing and wear a mask while working.
  • Compensation is $25/hour
  • This position begins as a temporary, one-year hire, with possible extension based on evaluation and available funding
  • Benefits include membership to co-working space in Eastern Market, open 24/7, with gym (resuming by 2022, pending public health updates)
  • All employees are at will employees of Community Mediation DC
  • This position includes travel within Washington DC
