JOB PURPOSE: The Communications Program Coordinator assists with the facilitation of the World Food Prize Foundation’s social media channels, press releases, newsletters and many other communications projects. In collaboration with the communications team, this individual is expected to write,  edit and post a wide variety of marketing content across multiple different outlets while preserving the Foundation’s brand.

In addition, this individual will directly respond to all public inquiries, monitor social media and website analytics and help develop strategic plans for targeted engagement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsibility to uphold the reputation and identity of the World Food Prize Foundation by maintaining its image online
  • Work closely with the Director of Communications and Events on many different communications tasks such as, but not limited to: 
  • Scheduling posts on the Foundation’s social media platforms
  • Promote events, Laureate spotlights, and other topics in an engaging manner
  • Brainstorm ideas individually and collaboratively on how to creatively utilize all the Foundation’s platforms in a consistent way 
  • Make recommendations for adjustments to enhance Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter pages
  • Utilize many different marketing platforms such as Sprout Social, Meltwater, Constant Contact and monday.com
  • Contribute and give suggestions on graphic design developments and posts, ensuring they follow all design guidelines and incorporate relevant information
  • Think critically and creatively about engaging and interesting topics to write about
  • Utilize analytics features on different platforms to track user engagement and boost participation online
  • Maintain media lists and contacts for newsletters and other emails
  • Build and maintain relationships with the Foundation’s partners, both in the local and global community
  • Communicate directly with the public on all inquiries and matters related to the Foundation
  • Keep track of all projects deadlines, progress and collaborators on an organizational database

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor degree required, preferably in the field of communications, public relations, journalism, graphic journalism or marketing;  2-4 years experience strongly preferred. 
  • Generally 6 – 8 years experience may substitute for educational requirements. 
  • Previous graphic design experience preferred
  • Prior experience working in a non-profit or foundation environment desired.
  • Prior experience working in the food and agriculture sector is desired.
  • Experience working with a wide array of stakeholders including funding donors, local, national & international government officials, agency leaders, scientific & industry related experts and dignitaries.
  • Experience in a guest/customer services function at a cultural attraction or in a corporate environment.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, negotiation and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure without losing a customer-service oriented attitude.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Office setting, occasional travel.  May be required to lift up to 25 - 50 lbs (generally office supplies or event props).  Long periods sitting at a computer screen. May stand for prolonged periods during events.  Some bending, stooping may be required. Willing to relocate to Des Moines, IA.
