Role and Responsibilities

The Bridge Coordinator is a new position at Perry Street Prep to support families as they enter and graduate from our school. The Bridge Coordinator will primarily recruit new families to the PSP community, and guide eighth graders transitioning to high school. The Bridge Coordinator is a full-time, salaried, 10-month position, and we expect all staff to work in-person by the start of the 2021-22 school year.

The Transition Counselor’s primary responsibilities include:

Eighth Grade Transitions Counseling and Planning

  • Support the Perry Street Prep leadership team with tracking eighth graders’ academic progress to graduation 
  • Serve as key liaison between PSP and families of 8th grade students around high school options, application, and enrollment
  • Assist students and families with understanding their high school options:
  • Organizing high school workshops and school presentations for student and families
  • Holding individual meetings with students and families to evaluate high school options 
  • Leading decision meetings with students, families, and stakeholders, when appropriate 
  • Ensure all 8th grade students complete all stages of enrollment at their incoming High School.
  • Brainstorming innovative ways to celebrate and memorialize students’ accomplishments throughout the graduation and high school enrollment process
  • Ensure continued compliance and communication between Perry Street Prep students and their intended high school
  • Maintain strong communication with recent eighth grade graduates and their families throughout the summer between graduation and matriculating to high school

Student and Family Recruitment 

  • Lead the planning, organizing, and execution of the PSP student recruitment plan:
  • Research and develop relationships with potential partners to benefit students, families and the PSP community 
  • Leverage recruitment fairs, community events, and social gatherings to increase awareness of Perry Street Prep
  • Identify key community and organizational leaders within the neighborhoods PSP serves
  • Develop schedules for community meetings and events
  • Provide in person and virtual campus tours
  • Answer questions over the phone and email from prospective students and families
  • Collaborate with the Special Projects Coordinator to implement a robust social media and online communication strategy to foster and maintain strong communication with potential, current, and future PSP students and families. 

Qualifications

Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience working in an urban public school or another mission-driven, impactful non-profit organization strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with DC public schools strongly preferred 
  • Experience working with elementary and middle school student and families preferred
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, analytic, and communications skills 
  • Ability to establish a team-building, collegial rapport with peers, staff, students, families, and external stakeholders 
  • Skilled at analyzing, interpreting, and using data to collaborate, identify best practices and areas for improvement, and drive results
  • Organizational ability to set priorities, organize workload, handle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines 
  • Comfort presenting to large groups and representing the school and community events
  • Unwavering belief that every student can learn and the drive to help every student reach his or her potential
  • Positive attitude, enthusiasm, self-confidence and flexibility. 
  • Familiarity with online event and meeting platforms (e.g. Zoom, webinars); Microsoft Office and Google Suite technology programs; and student information systems (e.g. SchoolMint, PowerSchool) 
  • Ability to speak Spanish preferred
