SOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help homeless and poor individuals and families of Washington, DC. Our more than 30 programs throughout the District provide comprehensive services that lead to mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, living-wage employment and affordable housing. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity and greater independence.

SOME Inc. is currently seeking a full-time Grants Manager for our Development department.

Position Overview: The Grants Manager is responsible for grant management, grant writing and cultivation of corporate and foundation funder relationships in support of SOME's annual foundation and corporate fundraising plan. The Grants Manager position is ideal for someone who has extensive experience with foundation/corporate grants.

Qualifications:

Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience in grants management, 5 years experience in grant writing 

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with attention to detail
  • Strong writing and editing skills; ability to write clearly and persuasively.
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to interpret complex state, federal and private grant funding requirements
  • Ability to speak in public
  • Knowledge of fundraising databases, specifically DMP (Data Management Platform)

Expected Contributions: Fundraising & Grants Management

  • Manage a comprehensive grants calendar of more than 100 foundation relationships, including prospecting, proposal development, and reporting, assigning grants/reports and tracking and informing department and programs of deadlines.
  • Write a minimum of 5 proposals or other funder deliverables per month
  • Manage grant proposal development and submission of grant proposals 
  • Assist Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations in developing, planning and executing comprehensive prospect strategies to achieve successful cultivation, engagement, solicitation and stewardship activities
  • Conduct research and prepare donor profiles on prospective corporate and foundation funders and event sponsors at all gift levels to met budget goals
  • Assist Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations in developing annual funding targets based on budget goals
  • Conduct site visits for grant funders
  • Prospect and cultivate new funders and manage stewardship of a portfolio of existing funders.
  • Work with Finance department on proposal budget development.
