Immediate Opening: Assistant/Associate Director

Do meaningful work in support of helping students access and complete higher education. The Assistant/Associate Director works closely with Independent Colleges of Washington’s (ICW) Vice President to organize and manage the Washington Student Engagement Networks (WA-SEN) initiative, which is funded through a multi-year grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The WA-SEN initiative, now in its fifth year, seeks to increase educational attainment and advance equity by creating an inclusive unified student voice to engage and educate policymakers about the importance of supporting higher education for all Washingtonians. The role is full-time, exempt.

This grant-funded position is ideal for a detail-driven individual motivated to share their passion and enthusiasm for access to higher education—regardless of socioeconomic circumstance—across the state of Washington.

Job Summary

Headquartered in King County and based out of a downtown-Seattle office*, the ideal candidate will lead five regional coordinators (all are currently enrolled students) and a network of campus liaisons in educating state legislators about the importance of financial aid, higher education attainment, and equity in education.

WA-SEN program priorities, focus areas, and key messaging is developed in partnership with the College Promise Coalition (Coalition). The successful candidate will lead student constituents across a network of 50 campuses (34 two-year public community colleges, 10 four-year, private, not-for-profit universities, and six four-year public baccalaureate universities) and mobilize around a common agenda through an equity lens.

Supporting WA-SEN's work is an Advisory Committee, with representatives from these Coalition partners:

• College Success Foundation

• Council of Presidents

• Independent Colleges of Washington

• State Board for Community and Technical Colleges

• Washington Student Association


Qualifications and Desired Skills:

§ At least 3-5 years of experience in college student affairs or community organizing, advocacy programming, and leading teams

§ Baccalaureate degree preferred; associate degree with additional experience welcomed

§ Clear and convincing speaker and writer

§ Excellent organization and event management skills

§ Knowledge of the legislative process in Washington

§ Knowledge of campus life

§ Experience in coalition building and/or inspiring and leading a diverse body of student volunteers leading through a racial justice and social equity lens

§ Digital media/interactive content marketing and web publishing a plus

§ Available to travel statewide under state health safety guidelines

§ Valid driver’s license and reliable car with insurance

*Independent Colleges of Washington is operating under public health guidelines for masks, physical distancing, and other protocols, including reduced density in the office.

Compensation
