As one of New Jersey’s largest foundations, the Community Foundation of New Jersey (CFNJ) provides support to individuals, families, corporations, and professional advisors seeking to expand their philanthropic impact.  Our Chief Philanthropic Officer leads CFNJ’s philanthropic services team in our mission to impact our community and our fundholders’ initiatives with comprehensive, aligned and focused philanthropic resources, expertise and giving platforms, including:

  • supporting and engaging current CFNJ fundholders in their own giving;
  • guiding the discretionary work of the CFNJ Board's Leadership Committee to help New Jersey confront and address key, unmet challenges;
  • overseeing the donor advised fund grantmaking of CFNJ's 600+ charitable families; and,
  • engaging our fundholders in CFNJ's leadership and civic work in a manner that increases the resources the Foundation has at its disposal.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead philanthropic services at the Foundation, managing a professional team to steward the charitable grantmaking of CFNJ fundholders and working cross-sector to advance the role of philanthropy in tackling complex societal challenges in the state.
  • Guide the CFNJ Board's Leadership Committee in its mission to identify and support effective interventions to critical unmet challenges; provide strategic and tactical planning, implementation and evaluation for the Leadership Committee and supporting donors.
  • Support and engage existing and future CFNJ fundholders in their own giving and the leadership work of the Foundation; build philanthropic synergies by connecting fundholders to causes they care about as well as increasing their focus on the Foundation's efforts to join funding and nonprofit partners together on leadership initiatives.
  • Contribute directly to the Foundation's financial and strategic goals and planning.
  • Engage fundholders in the Foundation's events, initiatives and activities.
  • Organize and promote foundation events and fundraise, as appropriate, for CFNJ's programs.
  • As assigned, speak publicly on behalf of the Foundation and represent CFNJ at public events, symposia and conferences, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline; Master’s degree a plus;

Experience working with philanthropic families and institutions a plus;

Keen interest in the field of philanthropy and the nonprofit sector;

Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

Excellent information/social networking technology skills;

Demonstrated interest in development of professional skills/expertise;

Excellent written and oral communication, presentation and listening skills for multiple and diverse audiences;

Attention to detail and organizational skills;

Excellent people and project management skills, with an ability to work in multicultural environments;

In-state travel is required.
