EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

For more than twenty years, Funders for Reproductive Equity (FRE) has created a vibrant community that works to strengthen the impact and effectiveness of philanthropy in supporting reproductive health, rights, and justice in the United States and around the globe. FRE centers Racial and Gender Justice as core values underlying its vision of Reproductive Equity and Justice and offers meaningful opportunities for learning, relationship-building, networking, strategic collaboration, and partnership. FRE is a Philanthropy Serving Organization (PSO) and serves as a network of aligned grantmakers and partners within the field of sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice (SRHRJ). In 2019, FRE welcomed a new Executive Director and is well-positioned for growth over the coming years to strengthen its leadership and effectiveness in the field.

FRE seeks a dynamic Development Director to advance FRE’s fundraising goals and long-term sustainability with a focus on foundation support, membership, collaborative funding opportunities, and potential new sources of funding. The Development Director will become an integral member of FRE’s staff team and a trusted resource to FRE’s members and funding partners, joining a growing staff team of 3 and a community of over 50 institutional members committed to reproductive equity.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Working directly with the Executive Director, and in close collaboration with the Operations and Program Directors, the Development Director will be responsible for developing and implementing FRE’s fundraising strategy, including setting annual goals, developing and managing fundraising systems, and nurturing donor relationships. The Development Director will bring leadership in the following areas:

Fundraising Strategy Implementation & Relationship Stewardship

·       In partnership with the Executive Director, develop the organization’s overall fundraising strategy and annual fundraising goals to support its mission and growing $1.6M annual budget.

·       Work closely with the Executive Director to cultivate and strengthen donor relationships.

·       Identify and develop effective approaches for seeking new sources of funding including researching and analyzing the sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice philanthropy and donor community for aligned opportunities and keeping abreast of trends in related social justice movements and philanthropy serving organizations.

·       Participate in the strategy development on current and future member-driven collaborative funding opportunities and pooled funds.

Donor and Membership Communications

·       Coordinate with FRE staff and relevant consultants to develop shared and aligned messages in membership appeals and donor materials.

·       Draft and edit relevant fundraising content for FRE’s newsletter and digital communications platforms.

·       Foster a sophisticated understanding of the member-donor continuum in a philanthropy-serving organization; respond to member/donor requests and facilitate donor support in a manner that strengthens affinity with FRE.

Internal Management

·       Oversee all phases of proposal development including writing, editing, and production working in close collaboration with the Executive Director and relevant FRE staff.

·       Develop processes and procedures to effectively track and move the development pipeline from concept to closeout including all relevant deliverables and reporting.

·       Collaborate with the Operations Director to develop internal systems to manage, track, plan, and assess fundraising progress against annual goals and fulfill the necessary grant reporting on program outcomes and financial accountability.

·       Report to and advise the Board of Directors on fundraising activities and outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

While no one candidate will embody all the qualifications enumerated below, the ideal candidate will possess many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes and experiences:

The ideal candidate will possess many of the following key skills and areas of experience:

·       Deep commitment to the field of reproductive health, rights, and justice; familiarity with key issues, trends, and funding partners; and a demonstrated commitment to racial and gender justice and to strengthening the field to support those movements.

·       Seven to 10 years’ experience in nonprofit development and fundraising; demonstrated effectiveness in cultivating, raising, and managing funds from institutional donors and members.

·       Demonstrated experience developing effective fundraising strategies, systems, and plans. Extensive experience with all phases of institutional fundraising including grant proposal and report development, writing, editing and execution, including effective collaboration to produce excellent results.

·       Exceptional written, spoken, virtual, and interpersonal communication skills with donors, members, colleagues, and other key stakeholders.

·       Sophisticated relationship-building and collaboration skills internally and externally with an understanding of the interplay between membership and donor cultivation.

·       Exemplary project management skills; ability to manage multiple competing priorities successfully and independently with tight deadlines.

·       Experience with financial planning, reporting, and analysis of the financial aspects of grants and fundraising strategies.

·       Experience with membership engagement systems and database management; Salesforce experience is a plus.

·       Passion, flexibility, and sense of humor necessary for critical mission-driven work in a dynamic and rapidly evolving field. Team player who fosters a collaborative environment and shared commitment to a bigger vision and goals; experience working in a virtual environment with a high level of comfort managing digital communications platforms is a plus.

BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION

This is a full-time position with the possibility of a part-time option. The annual full-time salary range is $85,000 to $105,000. The part-time schedule is approximately .80 FTE, with an annual salary range of $68,000 to $84,000. The position offers a generous benefits package that includes comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, generous paid time off, holiday schedule, and more. The position is remote, with a flexible location.
