Salary: $48,000 to $52,000 per year (depending on experience)

Hours: Monday- Friday, flexible 40-hour work week. Occasional weekends or evenings may be required.

Position Title: Development Associate

Supervisor: Vice President of Institutional Advancement

Responsibilities:

  • Gift Processing: enter all gifts into donor management database (Raiser’s Edge NXT), and create and mail acknowledgements in a timely fashion.
  • Database Management: update donor records, create lists and mail merges for emails and mailings, and generate weekly fundraising reports. Be the resident Raiser’s Edge whiz, troubleshooting any issues and keeping up to date on current updates.
  • Donor Communications: on a quarterly basis, update the donations page on the website and the template acknowledgement letter. Draft appeals and other donor communications, under the direction of the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, and send out mailings/emails. Periodically call and email individual donors to thank them for their support and update their information.
  • Assist with Grants: under the direction of the Senior Grant Writer, regularly search for new grant opportunities. Assist with grant proposals as needed, compiling and submitting materials for smaller grants.
  • Corporate Sponsorships: manage sponsorships for EMPath events, updating sponsorship materials, creating lists of prospects, and liaising with board members and corporate partners to secure support.
  • Act as liaison between Institutional Advancement and Finance departments, ensuring alignment between development and finance data on a monthly basis.
  • Support the Vice President of Institutional Advancement by providing briefing materials on donors/prospects, logging meeting notes in Raiser’s Edge, and performing other administrative tasks as needed.
  • Provide support at EMPath events by managing attendee sign in.

Qualifications:

  • Two to three years of experience in nonprofit development, and experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT or similar software.
  • Alternatively, two to three years of experience in another field with transferable skills; for example, in sales using other CRM.
  • Detail-oriented with a practice of double-checking work. Excellent written communications skills (show me in your cover letter). Previous experience writing grants is a plus.
  • Ability to juggle competing demands and prioritize work well.
  • Self-starter who actively looks for ways to contribute, and solves problems on own.
  • Enthusiastic contributor to team. Communicates well with peers and supervisors.
  •  Experience with MailChimp or other email software a plus.


Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. 
  • Hybrid work environment: part-time in office in the Seaport district in Boston, part-time from home.
