The Boston Alliance of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Youth (BAGLY) believes in creating safe space. In feeling safe. In having fun. In equal access to public accommodations, employment, and credit for transgender and gender-variant people. In building a strong, youth-led social justice community.

Founded in 1980 by LGBTQ+ youth, BAGLY is an organization led by and for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning youth to meet the core physical, social, and developmental needs of Greater Boston’s LGBTQ+ youth community. Today, BAGLY provides community-based leadership development, health promotion, and social support programs for Massachusetts LGBTQ youth communities, and is a leader in local and national LGBTQ+ youth advocacy and workforce development. Through partnerships at Boston Children’s Hospital, Point Source Youth, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, BAGLY is working to expand supports for behavioral health and for LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness statewide.

As Host Homes Program Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in leading BAGLY’s newly created initiative supporting LGBTQ+ youth, ages 18-24, who are experiencing homelessness. You will be responsible for the creation and development of the Host Homes program, including implementation, management, and evaluation. Through your work, you will support BAGLY’s mission to promote the health and wellness of LGBTQ+ youth throughout Massachusetts so they can lead happy and healthy lives.

This role reports to the Director of Programs & Services. This role will also include the opportunity to build and manage a team as the Host Homes Program grows.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Under the direction of the Director of Programs & Services, and working in collaboration with other BAGLY staff, the key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Develop and grow the Host Homes Program, including a network of Host Homes sites throughout Massachusetts
  • Oversee all reporting requirements and deliverables, including client needs and goals and case management services and referrals
  • Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention and transport clients, as needed
  • Lead and support the Host Homes team, including the Host Homes Navigator and Peer Leaders
  • Conduct host and client interviews in partnership with the Host Homes Navigator, to strategically and ethically match housing connections
  • Steward the development and delivery of training for new hosts on topics such as LGBTQ communities, youth development, homelessness, trauma, harm reduction, crisis planning, and conflict resolution
  • Collaborate in the design of support groups and workshops for youth and hosts with other BAGLY team members
  • Lead BAGLY’s direct aid, food, and clothing distribution initiatives
  • Represent BAGLY at community events and activities, including collaborative partner networks and coalitions
  • Uphold agency and program policies, procedures, and protocols, including confidentiality
  • Participate in staff meetings, planning meetings, training sessions, and other internal BAGLY meetings

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

There are innumerable ways to learn, grow, and excel professionally. We know people gain skills through a variety of professional, personal, educational, and volunteer experiences. We respect this when we review applications and take a broad look at the experience of each applicant. This said, we are most likely to be interested in your candidacy if you can demonstrate the majority of the qualifications and experiences listed below.

  • Commitment to and deep understanding of BAGLY’s mission
  • Understanding of youth development, social justice, models of oppression, community organizing and activism
  • Strong familiarity with issues of particular relevance to intersectional identities within the LGBTQ+ community; lived experience is preferred
  • Working knowledge and relationships with community resources related to homelessness, renters’ rights, and youth
  • Understanding of client-centered service delivery approaches, including Harm Reduction frameworks and Trauma-Informed service models
  • Ability to anticipate and address challenges and roll up your sleeves to tackle problems with flexibility
  • Experience in program development and the ability to take an idea from conception to launch
  • Comfort and experience working with computers, software applications, and databases such as SalesForce and Slack
  • Outstanding communication skills and ability to advocate for your point of view and to influence others
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent time management and organization skills and ability to manage competing priorities in ways that advance high-quality outcomes

This position is currently remote, though we are expecting all employees to return to work in summer 2021, or as soon as we can safely return to the workplace following the COVID-19 pandemic. BAGLY’s program environments are community-based, frequently changing and dynamic, and hours are flexible with significant evening and weekend programming.
