HEAF is a supplemental education and youth development organization that works to help motivated students develop the intellectual curiosity, academic ability, social values and personal resiliency they need to ensure success in school and career.  HEAF identifies students in middle school and supports them to and through four-year colleges, through a variety of after-school, Saturday and summer educational and youth development programs.

Summer Quest’s mission is to ignite intellectual curiosity, and to cultivate academic development through a variety of inquiry and project-based enrichment classes throughout the summer.  Our goal is to offer rising 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th graders an advantage for the upcoming school year.



Program Description:

  • Orientation: June 21st and 22nd
  • Program: July 8th  – August 2nd
  • Monday – Thursday, 9:00am – 12:30pm & Friday, August 2nd, 9:00 – 3:00
  • Location: 80 Willoughby Street, Brooklyn, New York 11201


Summary:

Summer Quest ELA instructors develop and implement a 4 week, based on common core standards, that culminates in student projects or presentations. The ideal candidate will be able to utilize various coaching and discussion instruction models and create activities that reinforce skills, promote group work and are engaging for learners. Teachers document student progress throughout the summer program. The ability to create a safe and rich learning environment is essential.


Job Requirements:

  • B.A. in education, English or related field (M.A. preferred)
  • NYC/NYS certification in English or significantly experienced
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in middle school or high school
  • Familiarity with NYC common core standards
  • Experience writing curriculum preferred
  • Experience in cooperative learning groups and inquiry-based learning techniques
  • Impeccable classroom management skills
  • Willingness to promote HEAF educational and youth development philosophy
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the HEAF staff

Compensation:

$42/hour for instruction

$15/hour for meetings and administrative duties
