The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is authorized by Congress to conduct research to provide information about the best available evidence to help patients and their health care providers make more informed decisions. PCORI’s research is intended to give patients a better understanding of the prevention, treatment and care options available, and the science that supports those options.
The Engagement Award program is intended to bring more patients, caregivers, clinicians, and other healthcare stakeholders into the research process. The goal is to support projects that will build a community that is better able to participate in patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) and comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER), and to serve as channels to disseminate study results. This is central to PCORI’s mission to fund useful CER that will help patients and those who care for them make better-informed healthcare decisions.
PCORI seeks a mission-driven leader with demonstrated strategic and operational excellence to head a dynamic team to ensure high quality, cutting edge programs and influence. Applicants must desire to nurture a program directly supporting PCORI’s mission and vision of funding high-quality, stakeholder-driven, patient-centered and patient-engaged CER. PCORI seeks candidates with an ability to recruit, retain, and develop a skilled, diverse staff, along with comfort building external visibility with current and potential awardees from a wide, diverse range of backgrounds. The Director of the Engagement Award Program plays the key role in setting the strategic direction and implementation of the program Under the oversight of the Chief Engagement and Dissemination Officer, the Director links the program’s strategy to PCORI’s mission and vision and supervises a broad and diverse portfolio of projects. The Director also leads a team of seven and sets direction for the team’s work. The program is responsible for, in consultation with colleagues across PCORI, solicitation and review of applications, recommendation of projects for funding, and oversight of projects from award through completion. The Director is a leader in the Engagement Department, responsible for managing the approximately $20M per year portfolio of Engagement Awards, providing a central point of contact for ensuring consistency of communications for the program, and direction for evaluating the program success.
