The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is an international conservation NGO headquartered at the Bronx Zoo in New York City working to save wildlife and wild lands and to meet global conservation challenges in over 60 countries in Africa, Asia, and the Americas. 

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) seeks a dynamic, well-organized, hard-working, and committed individual to support the program management of our Asia conservation program. The successful candidate will join a cohesive, effective, diverse team located at the Bronx Zoo in New York and locations throughout Asia.


Position Objectives

The primary function of the Program Manager is to support the WCS Asia Conservation Program on programmatic, proposal, budget and administrative activities in order to help ensure strong coordination, administration and development of WCS Asia’s conservation initiatives.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Provide proposal preparation support; carefully review and edit proposals to ensure adherence to WCS standards of quality, donor guidelines and WCS internal processes
  • Drive and monitor processes for grant proposals for funding coordinated by the Asia NY team and for the South Asia and Inner Asia regions, ensuring coordination across other departments within WCS, including Global Resources, Program Development, Finance, HR, Purchasing, and Legal for timely and effective submission to donors
  • Assist with the business management, such as budget and finance, of the growing portfolio of grants, and related processes, for the South Asia and Inner Asia regions and other Asia projects as assigned
  • Provide support on the annual and quarterly WCS budgeting process for the South Asia and Inner Asia regions
  • Support WCS business planning, forecasting and development initiatives
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting, sub-grant agreements, and compliance with donor guidelines, liaising with other WCS departments as needed
  • Assist with the coordination of certain Asia-wide funding and required follow-up activities
  • Liaise with Asia OGC on the legal review of proposals, agreements, and contracts
  • Maintain a template agreement database and facilitate the use of approved agreement templates
  • Shepherd and negotiate agreements throughout the extent of the review processes, including at proposal, contracting, and implementing stages
  •  Assist with the improvement of procedures and processes
  •  Serve as back up to the WCS Asia Program Administrative Officer
  • Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications and Skills
  • BA or BS, or equivalent experience; Master’s preferred
  •  At least 5 years of work experience in project, business, or non-profit management; experience in proposal development, budget development, grant writing and management, and reporting
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to wildlife conservation
  •  Must be solution-oriented, and have strong problem solving and analytical skills and the ability to creatively contribute to thinking on Asia-wide issues
  • Commitment to follow-through, problem resolution and quality control; excellent attention to detail
  •  Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain and communicate complex processes and ideas effectively
  • Ability to be part of a highly diverse, multi-cultural team that is largely based in Asia and be willing to work outside of typical work hours in order to order to accommodate colleagues in different time zones
  •  Ability to travel to Asia, if needed
  •  Ability to problem solve independently and in a sometimes ambiguous environment
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, including responsiveness to simultaneous projects and demands; ability to set and follow priorities
  •  Ability to work effectively against deadlines, and to put in extra hours if required in order to meet those deadlines
  • Effective “roll up the sleeves” work ethic
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
